Subscription?

I'm confused. If you pay the full amount to purchase the game, do you still have to pay for monthly subscriptions? If so, why is that. ;-; I don't like how I paid money to purchase this game, expecting that to be all, and now be told I'll have to spend more money every month if I wish to continue playing the game... Someone help pretty please.

Yea this is a P2P subscription based MMO, only entitled a free 30 days when you purchase the game. After that you have to subscribe on a monthly basis. Best you do your research first before diving in with your wallet.

I guess you're still new to online gaming? If so, then welcome! FFXIV is indeed a subscription-based MMORPG like World of Warcraft where you have to not only pay for the game itself (which pays for the game's original development), you also have to pay a regular subscription fee, which pays for the cost of maintaining the expensive servers that the game runs on, as well as paying for new content that is constantly being added every few months (we've got a new content patch coming in a few weeks in fact), along with patches that fix bugs and problems, things like technical support, and more.

And given the fact that MMOs rarely have no true 'end', your subscription is basically paying to extend the game pretty much indefinitely beyond the 'initial' story.

But we all have different priorities and expenses to cover in life so we all have to make the choice whether paying to play this game is for us or not.

Epic Forum name lol. But yes you buy the game then pay monthly like the good MMORPG's. There are free MMO's out there but I quickly lose interest with those. This is a high quality game IMO and they keep updating things almost monthly.

Depends on how much time you buy at once.
For the majority of people the subfee is this
14.99/m is 1 month with no restriction
12.99/m is 1 month with a 1 character per server restriction. Honestly all you need unless you want multiple characters for RP.
13.99/m is 3 montns with no restriction
12.99/m is 6 months with no restriction

You might see this one, but it is for legacy players only.
9.99/m a month is legacy and only those who payed a sub fee in Version 1.25 (pre-rerelease) have access to this payment option.
