I'm not entirely sure how you missed them but you know I got some really good gear doing Leve quests. some of which sells for decent coin too. and as others mentioned one of your level 45 job quests rewards you with 4 of your 5 AF pieces.

OP, you're worried about gil, yet there's a ton of ways you can make gil easily. Check your challenge log since it has several easy challenges you can complete every week and you can get a few thousand gil when you rack them up. Doing your daily duty finder roulettes will also help you rake in gil.
First think you need to do is catch up on your job quests and main story quests.
Like, NOW. That should be your priority right now.
The lvl 45 job quests literally hand you (after beating up an easy mob for each one) 4 pieces of blue iLevel 50 gear. There's a reason the market on lvl 45+ left-side adventurer pieces (except the chest, you get that at 50) is utter crap: there is no market for them. This means you'll have to find a new chest piece, by the way. The sentinel's chestpiece is a good sub, or failing that you can make due with Tortoiseshell Scale Mail until you hit 50 and do your last quest.
This gear is important, and the quests are important. You can't do your relic until you finish your class quests, which also reward you with the nice armor AND the necessary abilities for your job. In fact, since you mention Shield Oath, I'm assuming you have it and thus only have one job quest to do to be up-to-date.
Moreover, you can't do much of anything without finishing the story.
Also, you may say "well my high mythril has such and such stats better than..."
Remember that you lose your hat slot when you wear that. You get much better stats out of spliting it between two blue and/or green items.
Thanks to everyone for your advice!
I kept checking Market Board and NPCs in lower Limsa for better gear - and slowly progressing through main story quests, which haven't been offering anything good - and I didn't think of checking the Grand Company store, or that certain NPC items are only in other areas. Didn't remember that my PLD45 quest finally got unlocked too. I'll go do that and get my ilvl higher first.
I've never heard that Provoke could actually lower your enmity. In any case, I've only been using it when I lose aggro, and then follow up with enmity generation (flash or rotation). It really confused me how I didn't get the instant red square that I was used to getting! Someone did tell me a few days ago that the enmity generated by Flash was related to your damage output, so I bought a weapon off MB with the highest physical damage I could practically get, then focused on HP. Looks like I may need to boost that some more.

I think gear for your level is sold in Revanant's toll. or Saint Coinach's Find.

Always get items on or close to your character level so you can be optimized. And don't focus on the main quests for your rewards. They pale in comparison to what you get elsewhere. Dungeons will be your first source of gear, followed by the market board to make up for what you lack.

The best weapon available to you that isn't a dungeon drop is probably the Cobalt Shamshir, though you're one level away from the Goblin Longsword. You basically have a new weapon available to you each level until 50. Hell if you were on adamantoise, the things are so cheap to make (2 items from the same zone and 1 item off a lvl 15 mob) i'd give you one -_-I've never heard that Provoke could actually lower your enmity. You are *severely* undergeared for your level. Severely, as in, you're 30 levels behind.
1. Upgrade your weapon. Weapon is most important to properly build and maintain enmity. Yes that includes your Flash.
2. I don't care what it takes, replace the i15 belt and pants, get rings from Sorcha in Limsa Lominsa. If you go cheap, you'll lose a lot more in player experience than your gils saved.
And if neither are available use porridge oats? :P
You mean Oath ^^
As others have said get your job quests done for a nice boost in gear that will last you to level 50, chest from Darkhold for now. Damage, of course, scales off of Weapon damage of course, but so does flash. It does simulated magic damage that generates Enmity without removing HP from the mob. So the better the weapon, (WD counts most) the easier it is to hold enmity. Don't be shy with flash also, you pretty much can hold enmity on packs of mobs just doing flash and riot blade combo while tabbing between and dropping a quick Halone combo if someone close to stealing a mob.
Single targets, like bosses just use the 1 2 3 Halone combo. It doesn't hurt to ask the DPS to give you a few seconds to build up enmity before they go all out.
Good opener for Bosses, shield lob while running in, hit flash, Fight or flight, 2x uncombod Rage of Halone, then just go into your 1 2 3 Halone combo. If Flash puts blind on the boss, pop it into your rotation as increases chance boss will miss, thus less healing on you=less healer enmity XD
Ask in your FC if any crafters, see if they can make something to help you.
