For those going on about data storage, it is how people implement their system. SE did not do a good job and so the storage in the inn is limited.
Diablo 3 had this since they implemented the system in their second patch. What they did and GW2 too, was make it where the glamour was the same across the board for everyone. Then all they have to do to store the info for each character was have a flag for it. So, instead of storing the info of you having the item glamour, they have to store 1 bit of data per item. This would take far less room to manage.
I still do not have a good idea on how to store the info for the inventory or chest in the inn outside of storing the primary key of the item, but it can get rather large still for that.
Yep, this is essentially the same exact system Diablo 3 uses for transmogrification. Blizzard is currently working on something similar for WoW and it's decade+ worth of armor sets as well.
It's a proven system at this point. Hopefully something similar can be implemented into XIV without too many technical hurdles.
I had a similar idea for the glamour system as well. Kind of a template saving.
I would pay extra money to play on a server where glamor items didn't exist; where everybody appeared to wear exactly what's equipped. I can't fathom the need to be a special snowflake at all times.
The glamour saved me when the 100 soldiery gear have been added. The BLM one was so awful with this plastic tail I was happy to be able to wear something else.
And without glamour everyone would look like everyone. The time there were no glamour on MMO was pretty boring. You're a job but everyone with the same job looks like exactly like you, especially the tanks. Only the NPC were able to have their own identity with the same job.

this kind of attitude stinks. what is wrong with being able to have your armour with the stats you want looking how you want it to look? good grief
I can't fathom the need to force every person to look pretty much the same, when one of the greatest parts of an MMO is the personalization of your character.
the best idea would be to completely eliminate the HQ version of "every" single fck* mat. those using DOUBLE the inventory needed. or create and NPC that will exchange 5-15 NQ mats (depending on rarity, ie., 1,3, 3* need more NQ for exchange).
will still have the NQ/HQ crafted gear but at least no more HQ mats.
I normally oppose necro-ing 3 month old threads, but since the OP is the one who did it, and actually edited his post (to include the ideas people originally posted in this thread) for the sake of getting some attention for the live letter, instead of making a new thread about the same thing, I give it my whole-hearted approval![]()
