Let's up this again.

LOTRO has had just such a system as the OP has described for years. Every MMORPG I have played has a wardrobe system in place, even Trion's tiny little game Trove. I just can't imagine if games much older (or smaller) than this one can have wardrobe systems, why can't it be managed here?
I'm sure I'm not alone in feeling how my character appears is of utmost importance. For starters, it's a real disappointment that we have to wait until level 50 to even avail ourselves of what little there is here to work with, and then in working with it, we compound our storage problems several-fold. It's not practical, seems barely workable, and I consider it a major flaw in an otherwise beautiful game. It may well turn out to be a game breaker for me at some point.
And having to rent additional storage? I just don't even know what to say about that. I could see a one-off purchase, but a monthly rental in a subscription-based game? Really?

Signed and supported. Shame about the current response, but here's hoping the devs see the light. It worked for the old vanity slots thread, so it might work here as well.
* The sad thing is that FFXIV turned RDM into a turret, and people think that's what it's supposed to be. It's supposed to combine sword and magic into something more, not spend the bulk of gameplay spamming spells and jump into melee for only 3 GCDs before scurrying back to the back line like good little casters.
* Design ideas:
Red Mage - COMPLETE (https://tinyurl.com/y6tsbnjh), Chemist - Second Pass (https://tinyurl.com/ssuog88), Thief - First Pass (https://tinyurl.com/vdjpkoa), Rune Fencer - First Pass (https://tinyurl.com/y3fomdp2)
I also support this. If games like WoW and GW2 can do it, then certainly Square should be able to.

This would be amazing. I have two retainers where most of their inventory is gear I want to save for glamour, and not even everything I really wanted to save. I had to get rid of things I thought I *might* use for the sake of making more room.
Otherwise I have no plans to ever equip the gear again, so having to keep it just because I might want to glamour it later is very inconvenient but probably great business for Square... damn, we will never get this.![]()

Ha, the day devs implement this is the day capitalists learn conscience.
I'm worried about where to store this new gearI'm literally at breaking point but I refuse to pay for inventory space in a subs game

Even Wows transmog system recently implemented the ability to see every item of armor/weapon available in game in a book form, once you unlock the appearance its lit up and moved to the front pages of the book. (and it is account shared..hint hint SE!!)
You can mouse over any item not attained for its name and where it comes from ie: dungeon/crafted etc.
Something....anything.... better then we have here needs to happen, please se, ffxiv is so far behind in this area (as well as housing ^^) ....don't degrade the game by remaining stagnant (and silent) on issues like this.
Not just wow, but many mmos have a type of system like this.
Please consider raising the standards and functionality of this game to match the competition.
The op suggestion is very good, we need a change asap.
