Regarding when 2.51 comes out, the translation's a bit awkward, but so's the original Japanese. The original clearly says that 2.51 will come out between story part 1 and story part 2. The official translation just says that 2.51 will come out before you are bombarded with more content in part 2. But, there's no indication that they're talking about part 2 of the MSQ, not part 2 of the update series. The sentence rearrangement necessary for translating from JP to EN loses the context of what "part 2" refers to there. Regardless, referring to the third update as "part 2" is confusing in any language :P

Huh, the poem translation is interesting. Japanese is a pain to translate, isn't it? Comparing the official translation of the poem to my piecemeal translation of the Japanese version (using Google-Fu), it's interesting to see what I got wrong and why. "Now is the time to look to the past" (correct translation) in JP is very, very close to my mistranslation of "Aim now for the eye as in days of old." Basically, I mixed up "now, eye toward past" with "now, past, toward eye" and thought they were referencing the half-blinding of Nidhogg. Oops!

Also, I find it interesting that 鋭き槍 is translated as "Ivory Spear" - that's the kanji for "sharp" followed by ki (which I don't understand the meaning of in this context) followed by the kanji for "spear." I guessed the "ki" made it be "sharpest spear," but I dunno where they're getting ivory from? Definitely no color words in there. White is a strange color to use here anyway, since if they're referring to some famous spear of Ishgard, I'd expect blue (as in, azure) to have been a more appropriate random color to throw in given the EN version of the dragoon plotline.

And, what seemed to translate as "there are heaps of stuff so please enjoy it slowly" was actually "relax and enjoy the new content." Makes MUCH more sense like that :P

People have been referring to some kind of mystery trial in 2.5x - there's no mention of that in the patch announcement (original or trans), but there's also nothing at all about the zodiac weapon's final update either, so...

It was announced in the panels at Japan Fan Fest.

Might be that 2.51 is what would normally be 2.55 but rather they are making it 2.51 since the content is going to somewhat hefty with the introduction of the golden saucer. Then think end of March is suppose to be part two.

So it's January 20th, then potentially February 10/17 and then potentially March 17/24

I am kinda surprised this is the closest they've gotten to their 3 month mark since release and are releasing it mostly on time. 2.51 should be a month after like most 2.x1 patches have been, though possibly a bit later. Part 2 sounds like what 2.x5 or 2.x8 would usually be so 2-3 months after 2.5. Everything looks like they should have enough time to make their Heavensward release date.

Part one of Before the Fall is scheduled for the mid to end of January with the release of patch 2.5, which contains myriad challenges for adventurers of every persuasion. The patch will include roughly two-thirds of the final main scenario quests, three new dungeons, and the conclusion of the Crystal Tower questline and the World of Darkness. The patch will also feature the adventures of Hildibrand─agent of enquiry, inspector extraordinaire─on his latest (and perhaps final?) investigation, a new battle against Odin, the Dark Divinity of legend, in Urth’s Fount, new gear for gatherers and crafters, numerous new recipes, and more. We have plenty planned to make this patch a befitting prelude to the end of the 2.X storyline.

There will be much to do in patch 2.5, and before we bombard you with more in part 2, we’ll be offering players a change of pace with patch 2.51, which focuses on the introduction of the Gold Saucer. It bears mentioning, however, that the establishment is known as the Manderville Gold Saucer in Eorzea. You’ll have to check it out for yourself to figure out where this moniker came from. Including chocobo racing, chocobo breeding, and the return of the FF card game Triple Triad, you can look forward to a fun and relaxing time in the Gold Saucer.

Part two of Before the Fall is scheduled for the end of March, closing the curtain on the story that brought about the rebirth of Eorzea. What trials and tribulations await the Warrior of Light? What drastic turn of events will grant passage to the reclusive nation of Ishgard? Only time will tell.

As we usher in this new year of possibilities and adventures to come, I would be remiss not to mention that another prophetic passage─which now seems to be a yearly tradition─was delivered to my doorstep not long ago.
