Quick question, any sort of insight appreciated! Regarding mouse scrl wheel targeting

As the title depicts, I am just curious if the mouse scroll wheel can be used somehow to scroll through the party list? I play on PC as a WHM with a factory keyboard and a naga (12 button on the thumb pad) mouse..
I use my 12 buttons on my mouse, click on my mouse (in my case, I usually use mouseover.. less clicky) along with shift 1-12 mouse buttons to give me more versatility via just the mouse.
The only thing I can think of to improve my skill/ability to heal effectively would be having the ability to scroll my target through the party list via mouse scroll wheel (and I mean by the act of actually "scrolling" not clicking or any other fashion of that nature.)
If anybody has any insight or could point me in the right direction, it'd not only be excellent of you but would mean a great deal to me! I hope to hear from all you knowledgeable scholars out there!
    'til then ~ ^_^

    Sort of but not really

The simple answer is, "No. Save yourself some angst and just give up." But if you want a possible way around it (and the accompanying angst), read on.

Beware that this involves "soft targeting," which is different than the "hard targeting" you're probably used to when targeting enemies with the TAB key. Soft targeting is how players with controllers "mouse over" targets without a mouse. They cycle through a list of party members (or enemies, or whatever) with a cursor, then use a heal or attack on the highlighted entity. But their "hard target" doesn't change. For instance, a Healer might have the Tank as their hard target, then soft target a DPS for a heal. The next heal, though, would go to the Tank, unless the Healer soft targets someone else. As far as I know, this is the only way of cycling through party members.

The main problem for you is that FF doesn't accept Mouse-wheel Up or Down (or CTL-Mouse-wheel Up, etc.) as valid keybinds. However, you can replace the default actions on your Naga with something FF will recognize. First, go into Razer Synapse and make sure you have at least two profiles set up for your Naga: a "default" profile for everyday use, and a "ffxiv" profile whose mouse-wheel does something different.

Next, replace the default actions on your mouse-wheel (Scroll Up and Scroll Down) with keys of your choice (for numbers 6 & 7, change the Button Assignment from "Default" to "Keyboard Function". I suggest Page Up and Page Down for reasons I'll explain later, but you can use whatever works for you (Up and Down, Y and H, etc.).

Then within game, go to System --> Keybinds and make these changes:
    On the "Movement" tab...
    • Zoom Camera In / Previous Page: Page Up
    • Zoom Camera Out / Next Page: Page Down

    On the "System" tab...
    • Move Cursor up / Cycle up through Party List: CTL-Page Up
    • Move Cursor down / Cycle down through Party List: CTL-Page Down

The reason for setting the "Zoom" is that by taking Scroll Up/Down off of the mouse, we've effectively disabled the standard zoom, so this replaces it. I actually like this better because it zooms in and out faster than normal. BUT, for any menus that have scrollbars, you won't be able to scroll up and down like normal, which I find annoying, but you might not mind. But at any rate, this should allow you to use your mouse-wheel (with CTL) to cycle through party members now.

Hope this helps. If you want more info on soft versus hard targeting, see http://ffxiv.consolegameswiki.com/wiki/Controller_Guide

I highly suggest you make a UI suggestion to SE. those of us who want more targetinng options will surely support it.
