    Sense of danger?

Well I've come back to the game for the first time in months after hearing good things about the latest patch, and I've noticed there still arn't any real aggroing mobs around Lower La Noscea. Never thought I would miss it, but in FFXI we had beastmen and skeletons lurking in the lowbie areas, and though annoying, it gave the game a sense of danger and excitement. I eventually traveled from Limsa to Gridania and the entire way only saw one lonely gnat.

I feel safe not being attacked by something I didn't see after resting after a hard battle. Or getting slaughtered by goblins when I've almost made it to zone, but it feels a bit bland.

Does anyone else feel this way? Or is the game more dangerous once you get off the beaten path? I wait for an update that will place goblin muggers back in low level areas, and along main roads that will beat senseless the unaware adventurer.

the main paths between the starter areas is still relatively safe

but try going to a 50 camp and see what happens...youll notice a BIG difference(there are a few exceptions)

It sounds like with the redesigning of the zones they have planned that mob placement will also be different. I'm hoping they will add some low level beastmen to experience.

I still remember that feeling of anxiety when I'd hear that tell-tale sound of an aggro back in XI.

Low levels are fairly 'safe' now (no wandering Goobue near Bearded Rock, no Peiste around Blackbrush etc) but after r20 or so it picks up for sure.

Puks in Nanawa can be risky with smaller groups when Willowykes start respawning, sometimes two at a time in the same spot. The Amaljaa camp for the mid 20's wedges you between rank ~50s and rank 88 basilisks and drakes... There are also quite a few quests that send you through some 'dangerous' locations. Ahldskyf's second quest has you dodging r40 toads if you do it 'at rank', and Customer Comes First sends you into Cassie Holow where you have to dodge exploding Hares, aggro Orobons and if you're unlucky, the Unknown Soldier.

Granted, being r50 can nullify a lot that danger, your mileage may vary. A lot of deaths I've seen in groups come from people being half-aware when a willowykes starts beating on them or they don't move when a monster starts charging it's WS for a few seconds (i.e. Puks).

Everything is safe for the most part. There are places in the open-world dungeons & around groups of aggroing monsters that seem dangerous.

Is everyone playing a different game from the one I am playing?xD
It certainly seems so, because when I travel from Limsa to Gridania, I usually lose count of how many times I'm attacked, including 2-3 deaths at least.
On my way from the sea to Ul'dah I get attacked and killed by ant-like things (~ rank 39?) which kill me with two hits, same goes for the way from Ul'dah to where the forest begins, only that there are rank 70-90 dragons, rank 40-50 dogs and other stuff there, too.
If I ever dare to stray from the path a little bit, I get caught by ~ rank 60 flies.
When I enter the forest, rank 50-70 baby dragons eat me for breakfast, and it's not like I have much space to go around them with those narrow ways.
Obviously I'm not attacking them, they are aggro.
They are either in the middle of the way or at least close to it.
And you are trying to tell me there's not enough sense of danger?o,O

you must be playing a diff game or going WAY in the wrong direction. There are pretty well no agro mobs on roads. im 100% sure of this since i have like 6 chars now which i've ran to all cities at rank 1.

The current areas are designed so if you roam off the beaten track you will find aggro mobs, if you follow the paths you will be alot safer, if you want the danger get off the paths (which take a longer route than you could run)

sometimes antlions do get close to the roads, but they are VERY easy to avoid unless you dont pay attention

There are still occasional antlings near the path to the west of Camp Horizon and near the narrow winding path that leads to Camp Drybone -- not always, but they are there at times. I just ran past the Drybone antlings yesterday while doing a Mining Guild quest.

Anyway, in the lower level areas especially, I think Square Enix is being considerate of people who play DoL classes. It's very frustrating if you can't complete a leve because there are dangerous mobs keeping you from your task.

If anyone wants danger, just try going to reach one of the off-the-beaten-path far flung aetheryte gates by yourself or even with a friend or two. Goobbues, Drakes, Raptors, etc. etc. Very exciting! ^^
