As a VERY casual gamer, I still started my Relic quest, albeit a little later then the real hardcore-gamers in my FC, they are now running around stressing over Coil turn -whatnot, whereas I now am the very proud owner of my Spharai Animus. I only started the Alexandrite maps this weekend, but even tho I know it will take me ages to get them all done, I'm not in a mad rush to do so. I get 2-3 maps every two days and then meld.

If I sit down and think about things taking time in the game, I should just delete my account now and never play again, but I do agree with OP in one thing he said : the FATES were the worst thing really cause of all the reasons previously listed. I would prolly not have minded as much if I didnt have to do (virtually) the same FATES for every book. At least the dungeons changed for each book, but the LEVES and FATES was just depressing after book 3.

Anyone remember that thread "today I throw away the atma"

And the guy wrote this big thing in broken English and posted a screenshot of him tossing like 8 atma when they were hellish to get?

    Good times.

The zodiac is like the gold watch you get for being at a menial job for 25 years.

To some it's validation and an achievement. To others it's a placebo for something that someone would have done anyway, because they didn't have anything else to do.

Either way, this is a game and exist solely for amusement... so if it's not bringing you that, then there's nothing wrong with walking away and telling the company why it wasn't entertaining you.

Sure, but everything else is bloody entertaining. And WoW with is undeserved number of subscribers does the exact same thing with legendary weapons. You grind and grind and grind. Except you grind raid bosses, and you can't upgrade your weapon after it goes obsolete.

And it's not like you absolutely have to get a zodiac weapon. My dragoon didn't have one and I still cleared Shiva, Ultros, Syrcus tower and the first 4 coil turns.

Sure, you likely won't kill Bahamut Prime without getting at least Novus, but not everyone has to clear the top raid content. That is for the elite and I'm totally fine with that. If I can stab Nael Van Darnus in the face I will happily move on.

It's only bad if you go at it with the mentality of getting it done as quickly as possible. That's what creates the grind that burns you out. I have Novus on summoner and atma on WAR, WHM, and MNK. I'm still about 500 light away from Nexus. But I don't play summoner all day every day just to get light. If I want to run as something else, I do it. It's more important to enjoy yourself.

If you insist on stubbornly camping a FATE then the challenge is a test of your patience. But the challenge to solve this problem more effectively is to network with other players. Do you think hunts operate well when people camp zones for spawns or does it work better when people share information and track spawn times together and work together to spawn S rank. The challenge is to solve the FATE camping problem, and the solution is the same as how you do hunts. Communicate, coordinate, and play together, isn't this how a MMO should be?

And if you insist of solo-ing the FATE camping, get several sets of gear prepped for spirit bonding. Might was put that waiting time to good use, because you will need those mats for melding later, and while you are at queue one of those dungeons you need too. Only the foolish insists on singularly stubbornly waiting for the fate. The challenge is to find creative solutions to the problem, and that in itself is fun.

    @OP
    (Long post)

Let me give you a brief background on myself.
I am a Solo Player. Which by default makes me casual. I get nothing but grief from the community of this game.
"Solo Scum", "Casual Trash", "Entitled Leech" are daily insults thrown my way.
Honestly none of it is justified. However in MMORPGs you have 3 crowds: Elitists (Those who make up 99.9% of the playerbase), Casuals (The source of all that is wrong with MMORPGs), and Solo Players (The plague of the MMO universe.)
    (Satire in parentheses)

For an MMO. The game needs to cater to all 3 groups.
Elitist need Raids, and Endgame content to keep them occupied and forever in a place where they can look down upon others.
Casuals & Solo need content to have fun with & stay busy.

The trick is keeping content balanced.
The Relic quest is basically a path of progression for those who don't want to Raid for weapons.
It also allows Casual & Solo players with more free time an avenue to obtain a weapon equal to that of raid content.
Just like how Lockouts keep Elites from having the best gear in 1 day.

I personally feel that they should add Crafted weapons that equal the current Relic Weapon's ilvl so folks can stay even more up to date through that avenue...but I digress

I solo...so I have yet to see Coil T1 or even Crystal Tower.
However I dislike raids and I dislike this community. The community here is like Coruscant's lowest levels while WOW is like Mos Eisley (aka: It could be worse.)

However I have fun playing dungeons, helping new players (before the Elite corrupt them), and getting into my own adventures.

I also work 2 jobs. So I have no time for this Relic Quest. I don't even have time for the daily hunt FATE mobs now a days 10 seals is not worth 3hr waits.
    The brightside...you don't need it.
I buy & farm Crystals and resell them to make millions off the endgame players, and then I buy materials & get Crafted Weapons.
Honestly the dmg from a ilvl 95 mogweapon isn't THAT dramatically different from the Relic.
    [Insert Endgame player disagreement here]

I'm relevant and I don't hold back parties when I run dungeons & trials.
You have to play the content you have time to play.

My point: Find your own fun. If it feels like a job...then F#×% it! This is a game, it should be fun.

    That said...
Most elite players have fun standing around waiting on FATEs, ravenously looking for Hunt spawns, spitting on solo & casual players who pass them by, and some even have fun running dungeons repeatedly.
    Also note...
This questline also keeps/forces them to queue for dungeons and proactively help the lower level and/or solo/casual playerbase.

If you have time to raid then run Syrcus Tower or FCoB for the weapons.
If extreme mode Primals are your thing...then go farm Shiva.
If you don't then get a crafted weapon.

Don't force yourself to not have fun.
F#×% everyone else do your own thing.
    Yeah it can suck sometimes.

I currently need to save up and pay folks to run me through T1-T5 so I can get the Platinum PS trophy. I'm pissed about it...yes.
But its how things roll. Solo players do not belong in raids this is a fact of life.
    I'm rocking full ilvl100 armor and ilvl95weapons.
I can still hold my own with the Elites.
I have yet to do a Extreme Primal, or any raid...yet I've managed to stay relevant.

Don't force it. Expansion is around the corner. So that relic will be materia sooner rather than later anyways.
