The relic quest is boring, grindy, expensive, and too hard for me to handle. Nothing about the questline, beyond the expanded lore from the initial phase of it, has any sort of appeal.

So, I opted to take a few of the numerous alternatives for high level weaponry, like PVP leveling, primal drops, and Rowena's tokens.

See, i posted about this before. Relic quest is boring. Only completionist and elitist are continuing to do them. The whole point of a game is to have fun. Now yes, it is a choice, and I can understand that the OP feels like he is paying sub fee to be able to enjoy every aspect of the game, within reason.

I only got one relic weapon, for BRD, past atma stage, before nerf. I had farmed one crystal for a damn week, 4 to 5 hours a day before i got it, That's not fun. The RNG was stupid.

And a lot of the community need to realize that we are getting these expansions, patches, etc at a good clip because of the player base that we have. And a majority of the player base are casual or a step up from casual. Its because of them having fun and paying for their sub that we can have decent servers and such. Why would you want to tell people to leave and take their subscription with them baffles me? What if SE said, "hey, this game is for hardcore players, everyone else should go play something else?" My point is that if you enjoy sitting around for +2hrs staring at a screen waiting to do something, more power to you. But just like you feel like you have the right to defend a part of the game that you enjoy, others have the right to attack that same portion of content. And I'm attacking it because IMHO, its dumb.

I've been playing games longer than many people on here have been walking the planet. Its not fun to grind doing nothing. When it starts to feel like a job, its not a game anymore. And these people saying " oh for end game content, you need to watch videos, take an exam, fill out a resume to join a raid squad" etc, etc, you need to wake up. I should't have to watch a video to play a game. Its not football. Its not film study. I learn better by trial and error. I wonder what many of you players would have done in the 80's and 90's, before cheat codes, before internet videos, before automatic save. When games were really challenging.

Stop alienating people from a game that's supposed to be played with others. Damn, if you want to be all big and bad and strut your stuff, go play old content, look for newbies, help them, mentor them, help them to ENJOY the game. I'm tired of going into DF and getting the person that wants to run through stuff, even when the damn game tells you that someone in the party is new. That's disrespectful. The way a lot of you act is why we have so many issues in the real world. People thinking once they get to a certain place, the people below them are expendable, no names, not important. The game wasn't just made for you. And it sure isn't your world, so stop acting like it is and everyone else just lives in it. That's my rant for today. Lol.

The relic quest is also 100% optional. If you don't enjoy it, you don't have to do it, as there are multiple other options for getting perfectly decent weapons. In fact, if you're a casual player, then you really don't need a relic-- the soldiery/poetic token weapons will more than suffice for 95% of the content in the game. The relic quest is there for the people who want to dedicate the time towards getting it. It doesn't require the ability to beat high-level content (unlike the BCoB weapons/Shiva weapons); all it requires is a time investment, thus making it an option for players of all levels who wish to do it.

Nothing is forcing the OP to get a relic weapon. That's entirely his choice.

    Dear OP...

Unsubscribe and go here, Fun. There you will find some games cheaper than FFXIV that will provide you with the fun you need in your limited time. Everyone has different breaking points, everyone has tolerances and everyone has their limits. You've reached yours. Some of the others have not reached it and may never have. RNG may have favoured them or they may have a very high tolerance for grinds. You do not. You're not entitled, you're not whiny, you're tired and need a break. Take it. You might be lucky and be able to break all emotional attachment to this game, and find permanent enjoyment elsewhere.

Good luck to you my friend.

The entire quest line is a test of your consistency and general patience for an atrociously boring monotonous grind "How long can you go before your patience runs out and you cry "I AM SO BORED"."
This Atrociously grind is how long it took you to gain one level in older mmos.
What's your suggestion? If you tell me "it should be challenging" then i'll link you to my previous post
Keep in mind that when you come up with your challenge. Zodiac is lvl 125 with customisable stats which make it better than 130 ironwork to some class while ironwork is 120 and require minimum T11 down and only one person per week have access to it aswell as waiting 3 weeks worth of poetic caping.
But you also need to make your challenge accessible to everyone or else people will complain.

Older MMOs no longer apply, because they're old.

You don't apply old movie standards from the 40's to modern cinema, you keep the fundamentals but the general picture changes.

The same goes for a relic-quest/level grind. You can't compare the one year it would take most people to finish the 1-75 grind, to ARR's 1-50 grind. That's just absurd.
Or the FFXI relic/myths vs FFXIV.

But in relative terms to FFXIV it is grindy, long and boring comparable to most content available in the game.

I didn't say that I wouldn't do it, or that I hated it.
But it is grindy and generally quite boring after a while. That's exactly how it was designed to be.

I'm not making suggestions or implications that it should be changed. Please don't misquote me.

Well, arguably it should be challenging. But a lot of players didn't want that, which is fine.
And by arguable I mean, we're playing a game, to obtain certain things there should be some form of challenge to obtain it.

Player skill isn't the reason the new relic steps were added. People wanted a weapon they could obtain outside of raiding, and the development team provided it.
It's designed so a player with the absolute basic skills would be able to obtain it with a simple time-investment.

It is grindy, but i don't see what else they could do. If they make it challenging, zodiac is so strong it'll need to be very challenging to be worth it. And even if its a small challenge (2.0 titan) people will complain. A grind is a good and accessible way to gate something.
    Please don't misquote me.
    My bad.

I am taking my money elsewhere maybe the 10% of hardcore players that love camping and grinding will be able to pay your salaries.
I have a full time job, 40hour week.

I also Have my Excalibur and Aegis Shield.

Yet I also find time to Raid 4+ days a week for 4+ hours, Cap Tomes, hang out with my friends, Play Destiny and Dragon Age Inquisition, and get 6-8 hours of sleep a night.

    Whats your problem?
