Square loves nerfing old content for that reason and I don't see them stopping now.
Some people will complain that the quests got nerfed.
Some people will complain that the quests didn't get nerfed.
Some people will complain that the relic carries over.

Some people will complain just to complain.
Some people will still do the relic quests knowing full well it'll only take them to the end of the expansion. Then they'll do the next set. And the next. Etc...
And some people will complain that SE is forcing them to do this every damned expansion.

No matter what happens people are going to complain about it, because that's how people are. My personal preference would be that they continue the relic advancements post-expansion with the current relic weapons and streamline earlier stages so that newer players can catch up faster, as they've done with Atma. As each new stage becomes available, an old stage gets nerfed to speed up the process. I think books are fine where they are, but a price reduction would be very welcome. Instead of... what are they now, 500 Soldiery? They could be 50 each. You still have to DO the stuff in them! Alexandrite, similarly will see a reduction in price, and encounters will start giving more and more light (2 for Feeble, 4 for Gentle, etc...). I'm okay with this, and I'm almost done with Nexus. I don't mind doing the hard (Well, tedious. Nothing about the relic weapon has been hard. I'd MUCH rather see more specific content related to the relics like Chimera and Hydra) content for one weapon, but eventually I want to do all the weapons, and I don't see why I or anyone else should have to sit through all that more than once.
