To those saying SE won't streamline the relic quest for 3.0 and piss off lots people in the process, might I remind you of the people super mad when their 1.xx progress was lost due to the simplification of the quest.

They already did.
Easy to obtain Thavnarian Mist.
Higher Atma Drop-Rate
Cheaper Books
Cheaper Alexandrite Maps
Alexandrite via the Hunts Vendor.
A LOT has been nerfed so far, it can only be nerfed more-so for the latter stages in 2.5/3.0 (which is most definitely will be)

IMO They will either streamline the relic, or introduce a new questline for a new relic. Based on past MMO's, they will need to as outleveled content becomes empty. As for the people who will rage as they had to do all that work, that's nothing new, people rage daily for no good reason, or the same reason over and over. It wouldn't be the first time a MMO has done this to their relic questlines as new content comes out, and in turn makes everyone who put in the hundreds of hours prior very upset, but dev's only look at the majority, not the minority.

Thanks everyone for the tips and interesting discussion!

I would say they'll nerf the atma to animus stage at the very least by 2.5 even further as to streamline the process more expecially with newer quests for 3.0. Hoping they reduce the amount of books even or at least the amount of objectives from those books to make it quicker to complete in a day or 2. As for 3.0 and beyond I dont expect the physical level increase to be that big a difference at least at launch in anyways and theres plenty of space for an easy upgrade to be put in.

People complain about the tedium or "high gil cost" of relics in XIV... I'm still braced for the eventual soul crushingly long/impossible grind like XI's relics. Eventually we're going to get a step that's like "We need to melt down 10,000 Allagaan unobtainium pieces" which drop 1~2 per weekly endgame raid and all 24 people can lot need on them.
Yeah relic wont continue into the expansion. It wouldn't fit with not need content pre expansion to make use of content post expansion thinking that se seem to be going for.
Also I think se did say the relic would come to an end one day and right before expansion seems like a neat time to wrap it up.
I also have a 125 zodiac, am I sad that others can start a new relic and not need the old one? Nope.
Well it already has come to an end, Zodiac is not relic anymore its totally diffirent weapon. But yeah i could see SE making Relic Reborn 2.0 for Zodiac weapons in expansion, that way those who has done it already can skip next Titan HM and zenith part(2.51 adds "zenith" part for zodiac)and those who doesnt have it can skip these older parts via quest chain similiar to relic reborn. I would be totally cool with this.

Someone is not selfish if they don't want to see the earlier stages nerfed. They earned their weapon. Obtaining a rare weapon / gear is part of the fun of an MMO.
If SE is going to further nerf the earlier relic stages - then it becomes hugely inefficient to ever be current with your relic weapon. Why should someone spend 200+ hours upgrading a weapon (that has never been exclusively the highest item level) if someone else can simply wait 6 months or so and do it in 10-20? The zodiac weapons rarity are their appeal. You can clear "all" of the content In the game without the most current relic. You would save hundreds of hours of time by simply staying 6 months behind and unlocking glamour models of the relic once the quests get nerfed. If the quests continue to get nerfed - then there's currently little reason to be current.
Ii feel that it is selfish for someone to think that they are entitled to a relic (and spend substantially fewer hours.)
