My FC is pretty talkative in FC chat. When a new person joins, we all welcome them. Sometimes we have someone telling jokes or stories. Or we're just chatting about nothing or someone is asking questions or asking for advice on the game. We're a very social FC, and that's one of the things I like most about it.

Sounds like my FC. I think we might be in the same one. Especially the stories....oh lawd...I get on sometimes just to hear some of the people talk, but my FC is also helpful. Everyone is cool, and its pretty large. Last i checked, we had +350 members

We just had a couple join our FC and they were surprised we talked in the FF. I guess the one they left didn't allow it and had a separate linkshell for chat.

From all the other mmorpg's that I've played FF14 by far is the most anti-social one and I believe that duty finder (while very helpful for easily finding party members on low pop servers) is the biggest reason for why FF14 is so damn anti-social. Honestly the only activity you have a hard time being silent in is raiding and I've still seen people in raid statics not talk to their group at all for months. Didn't they say they are making content where you can run dungeons with NPC's? I can only imagine that would make FF14 into a single player experience for a lot of people.

I'm not sure about other servers but if you look in Behemoth's forum section it's just flooded with almost nothing but coil requests and from what I've experienced in game I believe that the majority of people use FC's as basically a system for managing raid statics. Most of these statics mainly talk and do content by themselves or raid log while inviting other players basically to keep their company credits topped off for buffs. Housing has also separated FC's by making a difference in the amount of content available. FC's that have housing have more of an advantage of gaining new recruits then new FC's that can't afford or don't have access to affordable housing (fighting with individual house buyers). This is not mentioning the "amusement park" content lifespan makes it harder to keep people logged in to do content.

A lot of the way the systems of FF14 works is very anti-social which surprises me since the biggest point in playing an online game is to play with other people.

For me the most antisocial game was Wildstar. I came there from FFXIV for 1 month and had to leave, because I felt so lonely in the game. I like the moments in FFXIV when people stop and start doing stuff which does not lead to any progress like 20 people dancing manderville or 50 people on fat chocobos in the Mor Dhona square, I have never seen anything like this in other MMOs. Also in other games in dungeons I really did not talk with people while here I usually join some chatter even during dungeons with strangers.

The only problem with this game is, that FC has no reason and you already said that. In Guild Wars 2 guilds have many activities to do together like guild puzzles and other missions. FFXIV has no such FC content and I hope that it will have it one day. )

I noticed most ppl talk in Team speak, Vent, or Mumble.

Even with 30+ ppl online in my guild maby 2-3 ppl type, other 18 or so not afk are in ts talking.

FFXIV is a game based on button mashing. IF you are playing your job in a complex fight (Dungeon, coil, towers, primal) you cannot talk without Voice chat. I highly recommend using a voice chat program because of this. Game sorta requires it if you want to be able to chat and play at the same time.

But yes Chat channels in game are extremely quite in FFXIV.

My FC is very involved and talkative. We are a small FC, which was a major reason for me joining. I would say around 90% of us made gifts for all the members for Starlight, just because we could. It was a lot of fun! My only suggestion for you is if you don't like your current FC research another one and join it. Rinse and repeat until you find one that you really enjoy. When you do, the game becomes so much more fun.

Mine usually is chatting pretty regularly at all times of the day in FC (we have members from Austrailia, England, America and Canada at the very least), and for those with mics, there are some who use TS and Skype.

Mine is just my wife and I, so we're talking in person. We belong to a couple of chatty linkshells though and use our TS to talk with friends in other FCs. I'm hoping SE gets the FC alliance feature in 2.5 and that it isn't too limited.

Then why not make your own FC content? That's what my FC does. We're working on setting up a PvP tournament (not entirely sure on the logistics of it, but some of my fellow officers have it figured out) and we've done other things in the past like contests, Hide and Seek games, that sort of thing. You get out of it what you put into it. If you want a fun, social FC, make it a fun, social FC!
