Only in a crappy zero-sum world where things have to stay equally miserable if an improvement anywhere is made.

Ocean Fishing is the next part of fishing I'm going to work on after I get all the Big Fish.. kinda sad to see that I'll still be plagued by this bad mechanic even there.

This post brought to you by Ku'er getting away 3 times (twice before I even started the mooch chain, the third time right after I caught the first one) and Yx'Lokwa getting away twice.

In my years and journey through fishing - if you go into fishing think it's gonna be a bad time, you will 100% have a bad time.

Not sure there's anything more to add to this conversation besides - fishing is what it is.
    Does it need improvements? Yes.
Do those improvements meaning removing the successful catch cap on big fish (again, the completely optional and in-no-way-impactful-on-game-progress fish)? No.

In my decades of MMO playing, just because something 'is what it is' doesn't mean it can't be better. This is a video game, that has been programmed by people and that program can be changed.

Removing the catch cap would be the best change they could make to Big Fishing, because Ealad Skaan 'getting away' from me just now... it's not fair, nor fun, it's a kick in the teeth.

But that's me... maybe those of you defending this bad mechanic enjoy the frustration or just want to force people to 'do it like I did it'... I can't fathom it, if the climb sucked, toss a rope or ladder down to those that come after you.

It wouldn't be Big Fishing if you could just outgear the fish.
This transcends the idea of video game numbers, and is more like actually fishing. No matter how good you get and how great your gear is, sometimes it just gets away.

You'll find that most people who do big fishing enough typically will throw ropes, ladders, helicopters, ubers, and more down to others. We *want* people to fish more because it's fun - and part of that fun is knowing that it will never be out-gearable. Knowing that if you're going for ARR fish in 2022, you're getting almost the same experience as someone did at launch. Going for fish takes you places no quest takes you, you see and learn things about the game that make you feel like you're really exploring. Fishing isn't just some grind you can do in a week and be done for some numbers. It's a marathon, it's patience, it's humbling, and if that's not something that appeals to you then don't do it. But if you want to big fish - you will have to embrace that the experience is going to be different than other grinds.

As I have said and as Canadane has said - if we could out gear the big fish to guarantee catches, then it's not fishing.

This is an MMO. Gear should trivialize old content. Old big fish are rare enough. There is no reason for them to be missable (so easily, in fact) once you hook them.

Just because this is an MMO, it doesn't mean it should be void of satisfying moments like catching a fish that's been evading you for some time. It's the casual version of EX mount farming.

EX farming is trivialized by gear.

The drop rate and dice roll are not.

The drop rate is constantly increased to a pretty crazy level at the end, and the mounts all have bad luck protection in the form of totems.
