Gil sellers and how to stop them.

Well, I'm not going to say that "Am I the only one who.." because I'm not the only one who is annoyed by the spamming gil sellers and their botting parties roaming over and about in our lovely Eorzea.

Why hasn't SE made any updates on battling against these felons? Oh, I'm sure they have banned a kazillion accounts that are doing the selling, but why not make it easier for the players at least? Why not make an update for the players so they don't have to deal with the ongoing advertisements in the game?

A powerful way to deal with this, would be to allow players block tells from people under level X if they are not on your friends list. This way they wouldn't be able to spam tells with their level 1 characters. Also, you should be able to block receiving friend requests which automatically add the person on your friends list temporarily. Most annoying ones are the gil sellers who first befriend you and you can't block them unless you delete their friend request first.

My blacklist is also full and removing those to make room to block new gil sellers is annoyingly slow and takes my game time in the process. Also make it so that you can single click report these people as gil sellers and a confirmation window after that. I don't want to spend any of my time writing a ticket about every single player that tries to sell me gil through tells.

At least update us something like this so we can play in peace without having to see these annoying gil selling messages on our screens all the time. It really ruins the gaming experience when sometimes you get many tells under 1 minute.

They don't just use level 1 characters. If you have any experience with RMT's and their advertisement policies, they use stolen accounts which may have characters ranging from 1 to whatever the max level may be in any MMO.

On an average day, I only need to remove about 10 from my list which takes about 15 secs, which is usually more than enough to block the days worth of RMT tells. I hear some servers require more but that is because there are probably a lot more gil buyers on those servers and it would make sense to advertise heavier on those servers.

The only true way to knock out gil sellers is to knock out the consistent buyers.

This. Quoted for truth and justice. So long as there are lazy rubes willing to buy in-game currencies, and those who are too apathetic to be against the purchase of in-game currency, there will always be spammers advertising the purchase of in-game currency. So long as there is a demand, there will always be a supply.

Until such a time as that happens, however, I wish that the team would implement a feature similar to WoW, where, upon reporting a gil spammer, that spammer is "muted" to the character you are currently on, for as long as you are logged onto that character. No need to add it to your black list (you would be able to actually reserve the black list for players you want nothing to do with).

If SE had actual active in-game GMs there would not be ANY RMTs running around. Instant banhammers all over Ul'dah's aetheryte. It's easy to see who's RMT. They all look the same, wear the same cloths, have the same class, stand in the same area, and have jarbled names.

In terms of the gatherer and craft ones, you can easily identify them via all the crafted gear made by the one person with a similar jarbled name. An in-game GM can easily ban the living chocobos out of these RMT.

Hell, they don't need to even walk around! Just by going AFK in any area, housing districts in particular, you will have them come to you via /tell.

It simply baffles my mind that Square-Enix is having trouble taking them down. They either extremely stupid, extremely lenient, or they are aware and are purposely letting these RMT run free for the sake of those petty subscriptions.

I will happily sign up to be an in-game GM to wander the realm banhammering RMT's. I see them all over the place, like you said... Same garbled names, same gear, same class (Usually BLM), in groups of 2 - 4, standing in the same place, queuing at the same exact time only seconds after appearing from the previous instance farming session... Or just from getting tells or listening to shouts. Just straight up ban these people. I can do this job from home.

We had ban hammer GMs right around the time RMTs became really big in MMOs and it hasn't done a thing to dent them. The most effective method to date is to figure out whose buying their goods and get rid of him/her.

Bots are also not the only source of virtual currency for RMTs. Players also sell virtual currencies and accounts to RMTs. If they can't get virtual currencies thru botting methods, they can just buy up virtual currencies from players and turn it around to sell it for much higher prices because they have the customer base to do it.

So in the grand scheme of things, we need to punch out their customers first or anything we do is pointless.

You got it right. Any attempt to report them is misinterpreted as endorsing them and they will ban you from the forum for a period of time. I should know, because it happened to me.

I received so many gil seller messages today I had to put up /busy and I took it off for an hour and received 13 more messages during that time and had to put /busy back up. I'm still with /busy right now and getting sick of NEEDING to do this. What the hell is going on today? Universal Gil Seller Day or something??

Step 1) Track the Gil and ban those who trade with the sellers. Come down HARD on those who buy the Gil, put the fear into them. Buyers should be priority target as no buyers=no sellers.

Step 2) Watch the sellers migrate to something worth paying out for accounts after SE destroys their market on FFXIV.

It is the Gil buyers that keep the sellers buying acccounts to farm and ply their "wares" in game. To be honest, for me, they are worse than the sellers, sellers just take advantage of peoples laziness/stupidity.
