As 2015 is the year of the sheep, I suspect that this is a... well... sheep.Hey folks, some people have mentioned that Kazuya Takahashi, one of the artists for FF14 recently posted some artwork of an Au Ra on his twitter page. I'm not really certain this is an Au Ra, but what do you guys think?
There's a number of oddities here that make me doubt this is actually an Au Ra. For one, the character lacks a tail. Just beneath the horn is a long, tapered ear, similar to those of elezen or lalafell. There's a white marking on the cheek, which can't be a patch of scales since the horns are black. There's no scales on the lower arm (and we already know that the scales are symmetrical on the body). All in all, this pic doesn't really bear a resemble to earlier Au Ra work, but I figured I post it here to get your thoughts.
Well, you can see her sheep tail and sheep ears, which Au Ra definitely do not have :P
Hey, I thought I'd drop in with a little tid bit: anyone think to draw comparisons between the Au Ra and the Japanese Oni?
They're both kinda Japanese in origin (Doma is extremely Japanese to the point I'd call it Eorzean Japan, while popculture tends to say that Onigashima, which is based off of Megijima Island, is the home of the Oni), they've got that whole horned thing going on, and their appearance seems to belie their true strength.
Just... a thought I had. No more.
Doma is NOT Eorzean Japan. Doma is more like Hawaii if anything. The Ninja quests and relic tidbits revealed that one shinobi (Sasuke) came to Doma from a country even further east to help foment a rebellion against the tyrannical king of Doma. He trained a number of villagers in the ninja arts and founded a hidden village of ninja (it's not clear if there's only one ninja village or several, but it's not many). As a result, they have had an impact on the culture of Doma but not to the extent you might think. Doman people do seem to have "East Asian" features (i.e. they look like Han-derived people). Sasuke's race has not been specified; he may even be Au Ra!
Well, now we have more info about Yugiri her face. Just a little over a week before we see all of it:

Looks like quite a bit of he face can be covered by scales (on the outsides at least).
EDIT: Asheiling correctly points out that this was from the second part of the trailer. So a good 2 months before we see her then.

Except that this is Before the Fall part 2 footage, so not until march before we can see her face. I was really, really hoping for her unmasking to be in part 1.
"Welcome to the ranks of the blue mages. However, at this moment you are but an empty vessel--a base creature, weaker than the most ordinary mortal. A blue mage must wrest her strength and vitality from her enemies. Show me your hunger for unrivaled power! This is the only guidance I shall give you."
~ Final Fantasy XI Treasures of Aht Urhgan
Ah, you beat me to it. As far as we can determine only her face is unscaled. And as usual for asians she has long silky black hair. I likes it
.
Nobody said anything about this being the unmasking. Maybe she gets unmasked earlier and stays that way for the rest of the story. She looks like she is at a meeeting. Maybe some diplomatic stuff.
Definatly looks like she going to be one beautifule NPC. Looks like I called that one too. lol
