The thought of anti-RMT measures being the main factor in the game's poor reception makes me seriously laugh out loud.

Combating RMT is important, even while the game is unpopular, because if it ever gets good the economy is going to be so screwed up by these people stockpiling money that new players will never be able to afford anything. Everyone knows lala trains with starting gear and random names are RMT, stop trying to defend them. You don't need to catch them in the act of trading gil to know what they are up to... it's plainly obvious. At the very least reports like this should be investigated and not so easily dismissed.
