GPU getting EXTREMELY hot?

If anybody is a child it is you and how you respond to the people who have been giving you advice. So good luck on your rant rage. With luck your computer will just burn out totally and people in FFXIV will not have to deal with you anymore.

This game is really not Optimized I have a 3870 it Run Beta1 o.o ya ok it did not even run the game that good. Release it run pretty good Nov 2010 update 60fps outside 40 inside 1.17 o.o ya ok i was back up to 80-90c like i was around release i can't play the game like that i used to run the game at 75C without issue 1.18 it went back to ok. So i don't know what SE doing every update that mess up some video cards.

I give my 3870 to my GF and i run a 450 and i run at 75C with DOF and high setting without issue and that cost me 90$ish. So too the OP your video card is low end you should at least update to a 450gts or 460.

Yeah I don't think one reply to the OP stated the game was optimized or not even. Checked over the whole thread, and several post just trying to give OP ways to lower heat with the old card they have. The game needs work no denying that, but to straight out blind rage at people because you don't like hearing to fix the issue now and in future spend a little money and upgrade is just unnecessary.

Also before I leave this thread I'd say go with the 460 like you said for $100 or less in some places it really is the best bang for the buck and will easily handle a generation or two more of games.

I've had the same problem OP. I'm using a 5670, and my GPU got to 90c with the fan on automatic settings, and 80c with it set to 100%. I bought a PCI cooler to put right over my GPU to suck away the hot air hovering in the top of my case (my case only has one exhaust fan on the bottom, under the GPU) and I mounted an intake fan on the front of my case. That, and doing some cable management keeps my GPU at 75c max with the automatic fan setting. Is your case cooled properly?

I have the same issue but not as hot with my MSI GTX 560 TI Hawk.

My load temps can get as high as 76'c and a 82 fan speed. Now some of you would say those temps are fine, but the Hawk uses VERY loud fans, it can get out right deafening.

Usually my hawk will max out at 68-72'c with other games, same with Furmark with the OCP unlocked at lower fan speed. (65-70)

simple solution would just to buy a low cost water cooling solution.

single bay pump/res combination
raditor (120.1 or 120.2)
2x scythe gentle typhoon fans 1850 rpm
gpu water block (koolance gpu 220 is good)
6 8/10mm compression fittings and 2m of 8/10mm hose with some ultrapure distilled water or premix cooling fluid and all your problems go away.

Water cooling is far from simple and it's not cheap. Also using a universal gpu block like that would be bad for the high end GTX 500 series VRMS. You practically need to buy a full cover block if you don't want to burn off your GTX 570/580 470/480

You would also need to spend money on a better power supply and a full tower case.

When you buy a Graphics card try to avoid reference models, the cooling is horrid, try get a XFX or ASUS DirectCU version since the cooling is often 2-6x better and the temps are really low.

I have a ASUS 6950HD 1GB card, overclocked to 860MHz core / 1270Mhz memory and it never goes past 70c during FFXIV, it often stays around 60-65c

Also make sure you have a good flow of air in your case, more fans doesnt mean better, you want to make the flow of air good so the hot air gets blown out at the top of the case while intake blows colder air into the case. In my case I have 3 Intake fans and 3 outtake fans so its evened out, never have more intakes than outtakes or the hot air will just sit in the case try to balance it. also the PSU fan doesnt count as an outtake.

There's nothing wrong with reference models, in fact they are preferred by most overclockers as they have a consistent build quality and they can easily be swapped with after market cooling, air and water. They're almost always easy to voltmod too. Those coolers were meant to run at their stock speeds.

Another thing is XFX, they have REALLY went down hill since they left Nvidia. Shoddy customer support (look up denied warranty rma on sites like overclock.net) and they are known to cut corners with their non reference coolers/PCB layout. They're no better than the Palit brand with lame "uber leet" marketing.

Yea generally speaking all nvidia cards run hot and 80c is a normal temp now a days for nvidia. It shouldn't even be causing you to lock up though. I think an unstable overclock is more likely the culprit. Or some other thing, not ruling out bios based overclocking/hardware issues or anything I might of forgotten lol..
Buy an aftermarket cooler and put it on as well.. not hard to do.
Or take the case off the card and put a fan right next to it..

and +1 reference models are what we generally want. They don't mess with the original design so we can overvolt and overclock.

Not entirely on-topic since you guys are talking desktop cards from what I can tell, but this is a warning to other people who may be in my situation.

I have a Toshiba Qosmio laptop with a GTS 250M and the card burned out a few weeks ago.

I don't know anything about the temperature it runs at or anything, but if you've come to this thread and you have this card, get a good cooling solution immediately. A good laptop cooling pad will run you $50+, but replacing a laptop card will cost you far more. If you have this card and you play for several hours at a time without a cooling pad, you will burn your card out.
