To tell the truth they probably purposely pushed Jobs back, and I am glad they did. With all the other content and changes being released there would have been no way that a 1.19 Job system would be as robust and worthwhile as any of us want it to be. Think about it, the job system required the development of new armor, skills, weapons, spells, quests, UI elements, all of which must be balanced and polished for each of the new jobs they add. It really is not fair to demand that Jobs be something super meaningful while at the same time complain that they are not coming out as soon as possible. With all the other battle system changes and content being added I think we will have enough to hold us over.

On another note, I just realized having a unique action bar overlay for each job ala what KH2 had (for worlds) would be pretty cool.

Job system is basically a new game. All new classes, all new balancing, all new everything. Since they have to create a whole new game once or twice already, I can wait a few more months for the third recreation.

Summer ends September 21st. I don't know where you live but that's not in 2 weeks. Stop being cynical for the sake of it because you know full well they mean the generalize end of summer internationally.

They'll have most of the promised changes done by then if they can get patch 1.19 done in september.

Still, I am a bit concerned about the pace of patches. I realize they are doing a ton of things in each of these patches, but 2months in between patches is harsh.

Most MMOs don't have large updates even 3 - 5+ months apart, especially F2P ones.

This isn't a F2P game, why would they follow a F2P development model? This is a major MMO with a subscription that has suspended payments, so they are obviously trying to get as much development done as possible so they can start charging sooner.

    Welcome to Westeros- err...Eorzea!

But seriously, except the snow in the cities, and the monsoon season we got for a minute, the weather has been the same for a year. Maybe the 7th Umbral Era will usher in the long winter...

Thanks for the info, do you have links to these confirmations? I'm going strictly by what was posted directly by SE reps in producer's letters or Battle Reform posts from about 3 months ago (end of May).

I didn't quote the list, I quoted the post-script which typically has the most revealing info about future development plans. The part I highlighted clearly pushes any hope of Jobs beyond 1.20, so at the minimum 2 patches AFTER 1.19 which is slated for end of September. That leaves only 3 months for them to release 1.20, which we know won't have Jobs included. 1.21 might, but given SE's release schedule, is there really any expectation for a 2011 release for jobs at this point?

Unfortunately, there isn't much actual content in these patches. We've gotten 2 raids in 1.18 I would consider substantial or worthwhile content. The rest is a bunch of menial quests that have no flow or continuity whatsoever. Then there's constant changes and tweaks to guild leves, arguably the only content XIV has had for the 9 months prior to instanced raids. SE has stated numerous times they want to get away from guild leves as a primary form of leveling/content yet amazingly, they continue to waste development time tweaking them.

In the very same Producer's Letter you're referring to: http://forum.square-enix.com/ffxiv/t...-X-(05-20-2011)
Yoshi-P: A number of plans made at the beginning of the year will soon be ripe for release. Among these are the shiny new job system (a proper system, mind you, not just renamed classes), an in-game achievement system related to Lodestone character histories, and new modes of transport to address the mobility issue. Once our current plans progress to the next stage, I believe it’ll be possible to unveil a longer-term update schedule. (We’ve been giving chocobos a lot of thought, but it’s hard to establish a timeframe before we define exactly what needs to be done.)
Also notice how chocobos were only an after-thought at that point, yet somehow they managed to be slated for 1.19 but Jobs which were at one point considered to be "ripe for release" have slipped beyond 1.20?

In any case, I wasn't referring to the summer patches, as 1.19 will be the last patch of the summer and Jobs clearly won't be included there. My concern is that they won't be in 1.20 either with 1.2x release dates questionable before the end of the year. I guess you could do some research and tell me how features that "will soon be ripe for release" in May 2011 end up slipping into 2012?

Have you bothered to read the Producer's Letter? Because from what I've already quoted Jobs clearly are NOT coming in 1.20, as that is when the class rebalancing changes are finally being implemented. Now, maybe by some stroke of luck SE will be able to release both the new Jobs alongside the revamped classes, but given the fact they've had to delay releasing class changes from 1.19 to 1.20 I'm really not holding my breath.

Honestly, Yoshida has been wishy washy with when the job system is getting implemented. As was pointed out, it was sort of implied that the job system was "coming soon" back in May. Now it seems like it will be out at the end of the year if we're lucky.

He has done this with other concepts also, it's gotten to the point where I don't count on anything getting into this game until it's maintenance time and the patch notes are posted.

If you Ctrl-F his Producer's Letter you'll see there is only 1 instance of "Job" in a passing reference to the Battle Regimen system being taken offline.

More disturbing is it seems the changes planned to the Armoury System for existing DoW/DoM classes as groundwork for the advanced Job system has also been delayed until 1.20. At a glance, one might think the Producer's Letter was referring to the introduction of Jobs in 1.20, but he's actually referring to the tweaks to existing class abilities that have been talked about for some time with the deconstruction of the Armoury System.

Given 1.19 is ETA end of September (mid-Oct in SE time), that means 1.20 is looking like it won't hit until maybe November at the earliest? Doesn't leave a lot of time for them to get another patch out in 2011. I'm not trying to be alarmist here, just trying to make sense of it to see if anyone else is concerned about the lack of any mention of Jobs? I think most people here would've thought we might have seen some of those Jobs introduced by maybe 1.19 or 1.20 at the latest sometime in 2011, but it seems as if that reality is slipping away according to this latest roadmap/letter.

SE said jobs were part of the list that was to be completed by the end of summer. So Ya it is obvious by now that time frames given by SE are always pretty Iffy. So they just bit more then they can chew so Jobs won't make it to 1.19 but don't worry i'm sure they will be there in 1.20. It will just take a bit longer then they anticipated.... that's why you never give out specific dates.

I don't know why people are arguing the semantics over what "End of Summer" means. Even using the Sept 21st Fall Equinox date as "End of Summer", SE clearly won't hit that milestone because patch 1.19 isn't even slated to launch until around that time.

Most MMOs don't have large updates even 3 - 5+ months apart, especially F2P ones.
Most MMOs also have actual content at release along with months of work-in-progress to sustain their first year or so of additional content releases. The problem with XIV is that it was released too soon without even basic content you would expect from any modern MMO along with too many fundamental problems that needed to be addressed before the dev team could actually shift gears toward producing actual content. Honestly look at what XIV offers in terms of content nearing its 1 year anniversary and compare it to any other MMO released in the last 5 years. They're still trying to fix core issues and figure out what to do with the direction of the game. Its pretty comical actually.
