    PSN is only required to get to the launcher initially, as noted in the OP. This check happens anytime the launcher is displayed (starting the application, error code after you get to the game menu but before you're in the world, etc). All anyone has done so far is speculate that this is some sort of requirement without any kind of evidence, or ignored the fact that FFXIV can be played without PSN and redirecting the issue to Sony instead.

    If this were an option, absolutely. But, it would need to be isolated to this cause specifically, and not "just pay for Playstation Plus/buy things from the PlayStation store/insert other way to spend money on Sony things here."

    FFXIV does not at any point communicate with PSN except when opening the launcher initially. It does not require any further communication after this. This is obvious because if you're already logged into FFXIV when PSN goes down, you will remain so indefinitely so long as you do not error out twice (error in the world, and then again at the main menu to be thrown back to the launcher where it will try to communicate with PSN again) or close the application.
