Just make it so that you can play FF14 on your primary PS4.

    Problem solved.

    It's been 2 days already that I can't play.

The PS3 and PS4 version cost MORE than the PC version, and we get LESS from these versions?!?!?!?

Is Square Enix giving me the ixali oaknots I missed?
How about the t10-11 loot that i probably lost since my group probably cleared those by now??

It doesn't matter AT ALL if it's a Sony or SE issue.
I'm paying for a service that I can't use, why do I have to be punished while SE and Sony just pretend nothing is happening?

    This is disgusting.

@Aerolol: Sony and SE aren't pretending nothing is happening. o.O SE has a lodestone msg up about the PSN downtime and that's all SE can do because the problem isn't even with their servers. Sony has released MULTIPLE statements to the media acknowledging the problem and also they've sent out a few twitter messages. I think your anger is very displaced. There really isn't much Sony and other companies can do in the event of a DDOS attack. The solution would be for them to invest and bigger, larger, better servers that can handle more traffic than they usually receive. Unfortunately, this solution is expensive and all the costs from it would be passed on to the consumer. DDOS attacks aren't nearly frequent enough to force companies to go this route anyway. Would consumers like to pay higher subscription fees to fund better servers for Sony, XBox etc?

All of this only makes sense if FFXIV could not run without PSN.

PSN is only required to get to the launcher initially, as noted in the OP. This check happens anytime the launcher is displayed (starting the application, error code after you get to the game menu but before you're in the world, etc). All anyone has done so far is speculate that this is some sort of requirement without any kind of evidence, or ignored the fact that FFXIV can be played without PSN and redirecting the issue to Sony instead.

If this were an option, absolutely. But, it would need to be isolated to this cause specifically, and not "just pay for Playstation Plus/buy things from the PlayStation store/insert other way to spend money on Sony things here."

FFXIV does not at any point communicate with PSN except when opening the launcher initially. It does not require any further communication after this. This is obvious because if you're already logged into FFXIV when PSN goes down, you will remain so indefinitely so long as you do not error out twice (error in the world, and then again at the main menu to be thrown back to the launcher where it will try to communicate with PSN again) or close the application.

Putting up a msg is NOT ENOUGH.
All Sony "multiple"statements are like "we are trying to get our services back, thanks for your patience".
It's been like this for almost 3 days now.
    This is unacceptable.

Why is that google and amazon are never attacked by DDoS?
And why is this like the 10th time in 2014 this happens to PSN?
    Isn't this frequent?
It's like almost once every month, PSN goes down for more than a day, and you still believe this is not "nearly frequent enough"?

I think your naivety is misplaced.

There's clearly something VERY WRONG with sony IT security (or the lack of it, actually).

They're still a business after all and the stability of their products is their utmost concern. We have no idea what they're doing in the background besides putting up msgs and to assume that they're not doing anything is completely silly.

The people attacking XBox Live and PSN are KIDS. They're attacking more because they have nothing better to do than troll.

PSN has been UP far longer than it's been down because of DDOS. It feels like it's always down right now because the DDOS-ers are attacking harder right now. However, the truth is that besides the last 3 days and the few days of DDOS a few months ago, PSN has been completely STABLE. So no I'm not being naive. You're being dramatic.
