Yeah good luck with that. It has such a long cast time people run off before you're half way done. Also, the OP is a scholar.
Yes I know OP is a SCH after someone else pointed it out already. Swiftcast also negates waiting.
You're fine, forget the whiners. Just as long as you keep them alive, it's all the same really. I have a feeling I piss of a lot of healers when I don't wait for Stoneskin in Trials, but 9 times out of 10, neither does the other tank either, so do what is easiest for you.
Nothing like an adloquium or succor crit prior before the tank pulling, lets me CS dot, shadow flare and bane targets. In a raid or dungeon with aoe settings, a lot of stuff can happen in 30 seconds so I succor prior to it and e4e the tank to ease my stress lol. SS is rarely used as people like to speed run a lot, so I use succor to speed it up.
In my opinion the only time when Stoneskin is a must as a pre-buff is in a boss fight where damage to someone who is not the tank is pretty much guaranteed to happen. In fights like that I like to put Stoneskin up before the fight to give me a little breathing room. It typically frees me up to do something besides spamming Cure/Cure 2 trying to heal the dps with spot heals earlier in the fight. Also if the tank is going to whine just give him what he wants. There have been plenty of times that I have LONGED for a tank to slow down so I can pre-buff on a fight I thought needed it but they wouldn't. If you are getting asked to pre-buff just let them have it at least they recognize that it is useful even if they are being a little obsessive.
aslong as the tank doesn't die while doing his job, don't worry about it.
As a white mage, i do it in dungeons while running with a swift cast, but before Stoneskin2, never bothered
Tanks in my roulette runs seem to be hitting some pretty big extremes on how much preparation they actually want when I'm running. I've seen numerous that start rushing forward without waiting for Protect (let alone any other mitigation), and never once give time for anything in between pulls. The best I can hope for is a Swiftcast-Stoneskin II between pulls. The other seem to match the original poster's description of shaking in their boots until they have every ounce of prevention possible. These days, the former is more common.
My opinion? I'll cast it if I know you need it. You don't need it if we only have three measly enemies ahead before a brick wall. You could use it if we have a potential huge pull ahead, or high hitting magic damage mobs.
:
As a SCH main I don't understand why you wouldn't Adlo/SS before a boss.
Even just as a healer main I don't understand it. Some of you here seem either too lazy to press the extra buttons, or think the mitigation is too costly or something. Placing Adlo/SS on before a boss reduces the amount of damage the tank will take, meaning you have to heal less in the beginning and it gives you time to do other things. Its not like you don't have the time or resources for it and the extra time can be spent on applying your DoTs instead of having to cancel your DPSing to heal, or waiting until later to apply DoTs.
It may not be necessary but it is inefficient to not prebuff your tank before boss fights. If that's how you play though, then fine.
Why are you running towards a boss room and sitting there needing to "pre-buff"
I do that ish during the last pull so we can run straight in. On BOTH scholar and white mage.
