Want to improve Roulette? Figure out a way to make people want to play healer and tank then.
Yea, SWTOR does this too and it works well. Something SE should consider. With the new expansion that Tera has received recently, they added a "Blast from the Past" instance matcher that functions exactly like Low/High Level Roulette where players can queue for it to help lower level players through the older instances to get them caught up. The great thing about it is that even though my level gets synced down for the dungeon, I get to keep all my skills and they get scaled down as well. It's not a complete bore doing the older dungeons with that setup.

That's like saying find a way to make people want to eat durian. Now, some people like to eat durian. I am one of them... well, let's just say I don't hate it. Other people can't stomach the stuff let alone be in the same room with it as it smells god awful. Either way, even if they could like durian convincing them to eat it instead of any of the other fruits out there is a tall order. I main white mage but I don't really enjoy it. I prefer a buffing/debuffing subrole rather than DPS. But I don't like scholar either because I find working with the pet clunky in high tension situations. I'll be trying Astrologian... maybe it's the job I'm looking for if RDM isn't coming out... but then... even if it did will RDM be the same class it was in FFXI? Likely not.
I don't queue as tank or healer in low level roulette because, quite frankly, I don't find it worth my time.
What about a bonus reward that you could get every day if you queued for a Roulette with someone 10 - 19 levels below you, and another for someone 20-29 levels below you?
But that's the problem.
As the other guy said, they need to find a way to make more people want to tank and heal.
Your large post actually adds little, and just brings the problem more to light (even though it was already glaring).
It isn't the Roulette, everyone here needs to realize that. Its the number of players who run DPS in low levels, not something wrong with the roulette.
If they made more players WANT to play a role other than DPS, we could see a huge change and more balanced wait times. Or they could increase the party size to 5 and have 3 dps (obviously if they did this, which I doubt they will, they would need to adjust dungeons as needed. Which is a lot of work.)
Still wouldn't make me run it. The main problem is that they take too long, you're lvl synced with your gear being on par with crap gear for that level, and your skills are removed.Low Level Roulette is the real crux.
- It needs better rewards. Personally, I think more gil would be the best reward, because they don't have any limits and are useful at every level. (Remember Low Level roulette is available from lvl 16 on.)
Alternatively: make it reward tokens for the lvl 50 armours we used to buy with obsolete tomes (Darklight, AF+, any future obsolete sets). Glamour for the lvl 50s, good armour to start into endgame for the newcomers.
- It needs to be accessible in a party. Duo-ing is the most common way MMO-players combine social time with game time.
A plus: I understand why keeping all your skills would be a balance problem, but at least let us keep all 5 cross-skills, for heaven's sake.
Overall it's unpopular because it's poorly designed.
Man I recall times before LFG, 1 hour or 2 hours spent looking for a group for a dungeon as DPS, 30 mins isn't huge in the whole grand scheme of things.
The only way to fix this is more tanks, why this game released with only 2 tank jobs I dunno, queues in WOW are a lot shorter then this for 5 mans, 15 - 20 mins at the worst for me. Then again has like 5-6 tank specs and all play differently to each other.
please add "Mid Level Roulette" for Lv. 32-49 dungeons. I'm so sick of running low level dungeons with most of my skills get locked even though I'm level 40+.
None of my queues are over 5 minutes, except PvP queue.
Play jobs that get fast queues if you want fast queues. If you want to continue playing a role that is (falsely) perceived to have zero responsibility (fyi this is why people are still stuck on T5/T9, and why NA servers lag sorely behind JP in T13 clears), keep playing dps.
More like I am stuck getting light on my blm or I would do all my roulettes as tank/healer...
I would like to see an actual roulette to it, I ran DR Expert 10x the other day farming some tomes and getting some extra gil in the process and got the same dungeon every time.
I have also noticed more frequently that I queue, it says all players are there and ready but we wait 3-5 minutes in 'Reserving Instance'
