Hurt hand, looking for RPGs that can be played with only one

A buddy of mine had surgery the other day and can't use his left hand for about the next 6 months or so. Still being a gamer, he can only play games one handed for the time being. Beyond working on crafting and such in this game what other games, primarily RPGs, do you guys recommend him playing? And can you provide a brief synopsis of why you liked it. He has a PS4, 3DS, and Vita. I suggested just a few titles...

    - Pokemon
    - Bravely Default
    - Fire Emblem Awakening
    - Persona 4 Golden

Also a long time ago Sony (or some 3rd party) sold 1 handed controllers for the disabled, this was back in the PS1 era that I remember seeing them. Has anyone seen something like this for PS4?

Pretty much anything turn based will do.
    Hope he recuperates quickly!

Yup, thats what I'm suggesting to him. He just got the 3DS so plenty of titles for him to hit there, I've only played like 2 RPGs on it personally though, was looking for feedback on others.

Pretty much this. Fire Emblem and Bravely Default, as recommended, among others.

You could do a *little* (pre-50 dungeons and maybe WP/AK?) FFXIV with a one-handed setup... strafe and turn keys near each other, essential skills within easy reach. But high end content, not much chance of that.

edit: You might take a look at lists like this and pick out the turn based ones

Turn based RPG's are always the way to go. When I had a broken arm one time, I relied mostly on them and PC games that required only the use of a mouse. Tablet gaming is also something to look at, some good RPG's on there. I played Knights of the Old Republic on there, and can easily be done with one arm. If he has a 3DS, Phoenix Wright series just re-released their first three games on there and the fifth one also on there and only requires the stylus. Also, the two DS Zelda games (Phantom Hourglass and Spirit Tracks) are all done with stylus and not an additional arm needed.

I played this for about 2 months with only a mouse rather successfully. He could try this out:

    -Get a 5+ button mouse.
-Set Strafe left/right to buttons 3/4 (or something that is along the sides of the mouse).
-Set back up as button 5 (kinda optional, I never really did use this...)
-Set move forward as holding both buttons 1+2 (left + right click)
-Set Right click to rotate screen (I don't remember if this is default or not)
-Left Click for use of all abilities.

It takes a bit of practices but is rather effective. The most common use is to press one of the strafe buttons while holding the right click and rotate the screen to adjust the direction of your strafe. This allows for precision turning while on the move.

Note: less effective as melee dps classes...

As far as controllers go I would suggest against a modded one if the condition is temporary (good ones can exceed $200 in price), mouse maybe as that has more of a lasting use after recovery. While not optimal I have cleared scob pre-nerf with a racing wheel so if you want to get creative that might be fun too.

You could always get Final Fantasy XIII and XIII-2. You can play those without hands at all!

If he wants to expand his options and has a tablet there is a whole new selection of games that are basically made to only play with one hand, since tapping on a screen with both hands/fingers isn't very feasible...

Unfortunately I don't have a list of any RPG's because I normally don't play phone/tablet games, but when PSN went down over Christmas I decided to try out the Injustice game on my tablet and I actually really like it a lot. It has lite-RPG elements but is still a fighting game at heart. You collect "Cards" of the super-heroes/villains and they have an energy bar. Each fight costs energy and when you run out, you have to wait for the energy to recharge. However there are consumables that drop that allow you to instantly recharge your energy.

Also, when you have built up a team of different cards, each card has it's own energy bar so you can essentially play forever without spending any real money and getting a true sense of progression. Characters level up to 50 and have a Power and Health stat. Levels increase both. Cards can also be promoted by merging duplicates together, which further increases their stats, and can be promoted (7?) times. Cards also come in Bronze, Silver, Gold and Special colors, so the potential to have a massive array or characters to use is there.

You play with 3 card teams, so it's like a tag system for the fighting. The gameplay is literally tapping the screen to attack, holding two fingers on screen to block, and doing random quick-tap and quick-swipe movements to power up special moves after you've gained them. There is a "scenario" type mode called Battle, a Challenge mode every set amount of time which completion will award you with a rare card, and an Online Battle mode where you play bot-controlled PC teams.

If your friend doesn't like fighting games then this may not be for him, but this entire game can easily be played with two fingers on one hand, and while there is a pay-to-win aspect to it (you can purchase energy rechargables or the Credits ((currency of the game)) to purchase new card packs with real money) but it is absolutely optional and in no way necessary to have fun and progress.

I'm in love with it lol. It's AMAZING to be able to play a few matches while I'm waiting for raid to form or sitting in DPS queue. Either way, hope he finds what he likes and gets better soon!
