"Unable to obtain the XXXX", Can we have safeguards to prevent loot being lost?

Usually its just junk that nobody wants anyway, but there have been stories of final coil groups accidentally throwing away valuable items too.

Its sometimes because the person who was meant to get the loot, rolls for it, but then absentmindedly leaves the instance before everyone else has rolled.

I think there are 2 things that could be done to help:

    - If you have rolled on an item, when you try to exit the instance a warning message should pop up to say "You have rolled on an item that is still being lotted on, are you sure you want to leave?" or words to that effect.

    - Give the last person to pass an item a warning message, something along the lines of; "nobody else has rolled for this, so the item will be discarded, are you sure?"

If people didn't want the item the first time, what makes you think nagging them about it will have them change their minds? I don't think there's a need to have a system since items just come back anyway.

It's their fault for leaving without getting their item. No need to hold their hand on every little thing. They'll be sure not to do the same thing twice if they're not brain dead.

Well, other than the scenario that I already mentioned.... say I join a second coil farm group, I'll usually pass loot for classes I haven't levelled. But I would take any items that would otherwise be thrown away.

I can keep them in storage for when desynth / GC seal trade becomes possible, equip the accessories on any retainer class, and maybe use them if I eventually level that class.

(Thinking about it, perhaps another solution to this would be to have a roll option with a lower priority than greed...)

    @ Amiantos

Its an easy enough mistake to make though, if you're distracted for any reason. I can remember doing it at least once myself, although it wasn't for a particularly important item; just a T4 drop that I could 'need' on uncontested and desynth, but I left before everyone had rolled and lost it!!

But if its something more important, like a final coil drop, one persons mistake would also effect others in the group too. If the person who was meant to get the item first messes up, it means that the one who was supposed to be second in line has to wait for it to drop another 2 times now.

I think this would be a decent change. I once rolled on a HA ring of casting when we saw our third one. I main a BLM and wanted it for the SS and such but let it go to our WHM since it wasn't actually a big difference for me when the second one dropped. So when I third one dropped, I rolled, and left the instance without thinking. It had been months since I had even gotten a drop so I had taken to just leaving the instance without thinking.

Definitely my fault but a little warning message couldn't hurt.

It really comes down to communication, the system is good enough. People can need on the class they are playing, and greed on ones they are not. If everyone passes, its not really the fault of the system, but comes down to lack of communication.

However, with that said, your first suggestion of the warning message being displayed if you have needed an item and are trying to leave is very sensible. This would be a useful quality of life change to be implimented .

Not to sound like an ass or anything, you have a chat log that gets spammed with rolls and says who got an item and whilst it's in the loot pool there is the link to the loot window. having confirmations upon confirmations is seriously just trying to cure stupid. You even get a confirmation saying loot will be lost if you try to leave an instance, what more do you need? "do you want to leave" (clicks yes) "Really? Really? Really?" "Ok, lat time are you absolutely certain you want to leave possibly loosing loot right now?" "Ok, but last chance, I am warning you you may loose any undistributed loot, on your head be it.

We have a warning message when you try to leave an instance (even when there is no loot to distribute) there is the loot link, and the lack of rolls in the chat log, you can't need any more warnings, any more and it will start to annoy most players.

Well, to everyone saying it's not necessary - ideally not - but all they'd have to do is add a noticeable message in red text to the existing "leave the duty?" prompt when you click on the Exit. There wouldn't be any extra pop-ups, but it would also alert people to the fact that they're leaving without loot having been decided and that they're about to forfeit their roll on it. Yes, communication is key, but this kind of thing happens every day and this solution wouldn't harm anyone, and it's not really "nagging" or "hand-holding" if the message was simply added to an existing prompt. For everyone else - you can rest at ease, you wouldn't have to waste a precious 1 second of your time clicking "yes" again! :P

Why you should always pay attention and always roll need or greed. If you pick pass, I would take that to mean you really don't want it.

Lots of items have uses too, even if it's selling for seals.
