    I could see a melee DoW DPS. Like RDM for example. Currently all melee skills are instant cast right? Why not do the same for RDM? Have all RDM skills be instant spells. That sounds broke but really what is the difference in Bootshine for 150 Potency and 60 TP versus Flame Strike for 150 Potency and 60 MP (obviously adjusted for MP totals). There isn't really any difference other than MP Pool and regeneration rates. RDM would have to have a higher MP Pool to make up for MPs overall slower regeneration rate. You end up with a DPS class with a longer total sustain but a more crushing DPS drop when you reach the end of its resource pool. You also have built in Utility in that RDM could have access to things such as Cure on a melee class or even maybe a party wide regen.

    As an example you could consider the DRG Chaos Thrust combo.
    Instead of:
    Impulse Drive (180 Potency) -> Disembowel (220 Potency, 10% Piercing Debuff) -> Chaos Thrust (200 Potency + 30 Potency, 20 sec)
    You have:
    Flame Strike (180 Potency) -> Pierce (220 Potency, 10% Elemental Debuff) -> Holy Slash (200 Potency + Party wide regen @ 30 Potency, 20 sec)

    The point is that the rotation could be very similar to a standard melee DPS. It has built in utility in its standard rotation and makes up for the DPS drop by doing something like buffing BLM to increase total party DPS and survivability. If you give the RDM lower over all melee damage from its auto-attacks it could fill a role similar to that of BRD: Lower/lowest DPS of the group but its presence overall improves the parties performance & survivability and it doesn't suffer from movement mechanics as much as other DPS but still more than a BRD does. Spells like Flame Strike could be ranged where Pierce would be melee range. It adds versatility, sustainability, but on the flip side suffers from over all lower total DPS.

    Obviously that's just spit balling and does not enjoy the benefit of an entire Dev team and months of testing for balancing purposes but if you are wondering if it could be possible to do a Melee DPS, I absolutely believe so and the above example is why I think it can be done.
