After a lot of dawdling, I got to the point where I can choose a path companion and I'm left to wonder... does the class of the companion really matter that much?

No one expects the miquote inquisition!!!
I don't think so. I was doing a mission and my Path companion didn't help at all... It doesn't matter anyway, I chose him because he was the cutest.
So it won't hurt me if I'm a glad and I choose another glad to be my companion?

So far my companion helped me once and made me fail a mision 4 times.
Choose whatever you want, it wont matter XD
In Missions that you are required to be stealthy (The Sylph's) your companion won't help you fighting. In Missions that you are required to Fight/Parley they usually help you when you fight.
I chose a Conjurer because i though she would heal me. Nope. She just nukes the mob im not fighting.
When all else fails, Heck the Bed.
I chose an archer and he seems to think staying as far away as possible and not fighting is the right thing to do, being ranged and all ~,~
So..maybe a close-ranged companion would be better?
The only time they seem to do anything combat related is in one mission. I chose CON for mine and she did nuke/heals.
