Also about Shiva "laying with dragons" May not literally mean doing naughty things and making babies. But similar to the term "sleeping with the enemy" Which does not mean actually going to bed with anyone. It could literally mean she sided with the Dravanians against her native Coerthians.

Or Au Ra could be like Apes are to gorillas in relation, Fall into same category of "animals" yet distinct races with no interbreeding to make em happen ^_^

After playing --the MMO that mustn't be named-- (and a cpl others) I've learned one VERY important thing. There are places in MMO where lore is forcibly broken for whatever reason needed. New Race, is actually one of them, as they wouldn't have been available at start but that story is already written. Its similar to how completing the 2.2 quests as NIN are slightly broken lore wise; "Oh, you've studied similar arts before, I want to meet them and see if I can assist" "Oh your already a nin, so I dont need to tell you more; GJ" lol it doesn't work.

Also, Yugiri came about in 2.2. She was hidden BECAUSE she was a teaser to the (already at that point hinted at) new 3.0 race. It was made that way for that reason. SE wasn't yet prepared for the players to see the new race, so they hid her features. After seeing the Au Ra vid from the fan fest, I'm thinking some form of facial sheer mast is a female culture thing (which may or may not be true come them being actually playable) This is speculated via the AST clip.

I honestly don't know what SE will do about the lore as it concerns the Au Ra. Maybe Au Ra will have their own starting area, and at a certain point, we get to choose to go to one of the other city-states possibly? It would be weird for player Au Ra to just start off like all the other races, seeing as they don't come in until much later into the story. I guess all we can do is wait and see what happens.

As for the Au Ra themselves, I'm really excited to play as one. They seem like they'll be a very interesting race. I hope we get to find out what their naming conventions are like before the expansion goes live.

I think Yurgi might be a special case where she's more dragon looking than Au Ra, which could explain why she doesn't want to freak everyone out.

Or Yugiri was adopted to Domans and has had issues with not being a Hyur before. Either way, we'll know more after 2.5 when she reveals her face

The Opening is "random adventurer comes from a place outside the city states" as starting point. I think its actually a pretty safe setup for adding anything and they don't need to have a special place.

Nope, no lore conflict. We most likely fight tempered dragons, and every dragoon befriends a dragon mount anyway during the storyline. Real wars aren't black and white, and this conflict is no exeption.

Tempered to which Primal tho? Not Shiva as doesn't hang around long enough to temper all those dragons even in stone vigil. Bahamut? Also no as was imprisoned inside Dalamud since the allagan empire was an empire and is presently in more pieces than a jigsaw under the ground ^^

Could be that the dravanians are survivors and descendants of the Dragons taken from Mercydia (sp) by the Alaagans after they invaded and enslaved them. They got free during the destruction of Allag and set up home in coerthas, then the original "Ishagardians" decided, Ooo nice place to build a castle city thingy, Dragons were like "newp our home" Ishgardians where like "we dun care, it still a nice place to build a castle city thingy an wesa gunna build a city castle thingy, so get off mah lawn ya varmint dragon thingies so we can build our castle city thingy!" and war commenced and the castle city thingy (Ishgard) got built. With lots (well a couple) of castle type outpost thingies too!

What if the Dravanians and Mercydians are separate beast tribes? There isn't much difference between Kobolds and Goblins and the Vanu Vanu and Ixal differ in a discount at McDonald's, still all of them have their own primals.

Additionally, we don't really know how long dragons live. They could have been tempered when Bahamut was still loose.

Anyroad if dragoons can stomach taming a dragon I think Au Ra can stomach being a dragoon.

Adding to Sapphic's post about the dravonian horde being slaved by the allagans, and the fact that in the latest patch we catch a glimps of the ascians with the holy see. If ( and its a big if) they are controlling the holy see maybe it is them that are keeping the war going on for so long trying to re-enslave the dravonian horde again like they were during the third umbral era by the allagans. The fact that a humanoid race with dragon features could have been part of the dravonian horde and enslaved. It is possible even in realworld standards we evolved from apes, however apes still exist, why can't dragons still exist and a more humanoid version evolved from it. In chineese mythology the dragon has no ears but it "listens with its horns" so the horns could well be a left over from dragons along with the scales. Another question would be what links do the Ascians have with the Allagans or are they similar?
