Constant Lag every single night at the same time in EST USA

This issue has been going on for several weeks now and it's completely ridiculous how nothing has been done about it. This isn't happening to only me. It's NOT my ISP, I'm sick of SE telling me it's my ISP.

Whats the deal? This is the first subscription based game I have ever played and I hate to say it, but I've had better experiences with free to play servers. Shockingly enough, the last thing I would ever want to say is that Square Enix has let me down. PLEASE, help me out here!

If any admins or mods read this post, pm me with a valuable solution or give me some sort of hope that this can be resolved before my first month of subscription ends. There's no way I can play this game with this much lag, consistently, every night.

    ISP: Verizon Fios NJ USA

    Welcome to Verizon.

as Netflix is via level3, you will get the same issue.

    complain to your ISP.

That demonstrates a problem with the routes your ISP has put in place. Need to get in touch with your ISP's tier3 support--they are the ones that can conduct a proper investigation into the path you are assigned to the ffxiv servers, not the helpdesk guys that answer the 800 number nor the local technicians that come to check your local devices and cables. The problems typically persist deeper in your routes, past the localized segments that tier1 and tier2 techs can address. Hence, you need to be dealing with tier3. They can, and have resolved these issues for many of us here with this game, as well as other services in the past.

In most cases its not yor connection causing the problem Level 9 is to blame for this I have a 100M/S connection with a 100MB/s transfer speed a also live in Ohio wich is pretty close to that datacenter compared to most of the US. Problem is comeing from the Level5 relay hops before it enters the North american data center SE needs to either remove level 5 from the equaction and reroute around them or tell Level 5 relay-station to get there crap together, this is the only MMO I have seen that has massive connection issues after being out of launch for a year and there is no excuses for it.

Level 3 is not to blame for this, saying or believing such is practising extreme ignorance to the situation at hand.

Verizon refuses to connect additional intermediary links, that Level 3 has made available to them resulting in congestion and artificial choking during peak hours.

Right, I have already gone through all the steps and did route test and level 3 is the one that's slow. Its the path the SE server takes not my ISP in general.

Correction. It is the route your ISP has assigned to you to get to Ormuco's network. Your ISP has the analytical tools and the means to adjust your routing to avoid congested corridors if they are not willing to provision the necessary port upgrades at the exchanges to supply the required bandwidth at those congested exchange points. They can do something about it...they just are choosing not to.

Well yea its Time Warner so their "tech support" team is useless. They usually try to sell me shit like digital phones instead of helping me with my issue. Transferring to higher level TS doesn't do anything either.

Bandwidth is not the problem...it is heightened latency/congestive failure that leads to delayed/dropped packets that trigger retransmits and in worse conditions sessions get dropped.

The transfer speed remains constant bit for bit as dictated by the medium in use (copper, fiber, wireless), all they are doing is bundling more channels in parallel to give you more bandwidth. Each channel on a typical cable system can provide upwards of 30mbps bandwidth, but they gate it in time slices to regulate the throughput--but once the slot is assigned, you get that full bandwidth for that timeslice. Basically, you are bursting small chunks of data at higher speeds that are metered so many times per second to average out to your purchased throughput. But this game barely requires more bandwidth then you could get by bonding two 56k or ISDN modems--you can run it on ADSL light lines provided the latency is consistently low enough.

So all that extreme bandwidth may go to waste when the game only needs to stream about 5-6KB per second tops under extreme conditions. Note that is kilobytes...watch your S/R numbers in game if you don't believe it. That is how many bytes per second the game is sending and receiving. Multiply it by 8 to get the bits per second rate. About the only time you typically exceed anything close to 1 megabyte per second is when you zone somewhere like Mor Dhona or other highly populated zones.

On my lines, it rarely exceeds 600 kilobits per second (that's bits, not bytes), and that is only for something major like zoning into S rank or Behemoth/Odin. I can have two HD streams going to the TV's, my daughter can be face-timing a friend, and I can have ariyala's hunt tracker up on a tablet while I am hopping around doing hunts with no lag on my laptop and STILL not exceed 15mbps on average....why I only pay for 15m service(but I get just over 16m due to how the system synchs transfers). It would simply be overkill for how I use the internet. The trick is I worked with tier3 to identify the problems in route and they addressed it so I can maintain quick response times with the services (ie: low latency)
