    Gil with Mining?

Hi guys! I'm attempting to level my miner with the mindset that mining will be my primary source of gil. I'll do it while waiting for queues, when I'm bored, etc. I can do it for hours and it really doesn't bother me.

With that being said, can mining be a legitimate source of income? I know I'd make a lot more with crafting professions, but you need mats to craft of course

And, by income, I mean I wish to mine stuff rather than crystals, shards, clusters, etc.

A lot of the mining materials can bring you in money (including shards, crystals, clusters), but you would be better off taking up some crafting classes as well; maybe ones that are supplemented by mining like Goldsmith & Blacksmith/Armorer.

check marketboards on your server. Look at what items you can gather and look at the prices/sales history (so you can see what the flux is/volume) gather things worth your time/gil. Every server's market is slightly different, but gathering the right mats+bundling them in the right sizes=decent profits.

Like for example ores tend to sell well in full stacks...but 'rocks' like granite typically sell better in smaller bunches. Again though, get in the habit of checking the MB's every day and then deciding where/what to gather based on that.

I have a 50 miner and botanist, and the most money I have made in the game BY FAR is just gathering clusters when they pop while i'm doing pretty much anything, then selling them. I make at least 15K per in game 4 hours (intervals) usually more if not a lot of people are gathering certain clusters (wind clusters are up to 2K on my server right now) it's pretty easy, and I also have my retainers gathering shards (getting 60 shards every 40 minutes, $$$)

    Umm...

1 stack of ANYTHING that sells for 200gil ea = 200x99=19,800 before market taxes. And any 'normal' mats (Ie not on timers), can be gathered, by the stack in 10-15 minutes. So no offense, but your cluster gathering overall is typically not the best 'time for money ratio'...unless you are gathering other things inbetween and/or unless your 15K/per every 4 hours is wrong. I can make 15K gathering walnut logs for heavens sake in 10 minutes. Many other things work like this too.

But as Dark said, the best advice is research YOUR servers marketboards, see what's selling for a decent margin for the time/skill involved and sell that.

Look for things that are 1. selling high and/or 2. selling fast and/or 3. in limited supply currently on the boards.

I don't mine, personally, but I do make quite a bit from selling materials (mostly through desynth). It'll take a bit of research, but it's not impossible to earn a decent amount of gil. Just be sure to do your own research and find your own answers. If you find your answers online, remember that your competition also found the same information, which means you'll already have competition waiting for you. Look for your own little corner of the market, and proceed to make your fortune.

I'd also look into crafting to supplement. More so to have easy reference to all of the recipes. The online guides are great, but it's also nice to have a reference in game.

Being able to use your own material also give you alternative selling options, especially in the event that the mined material prices go below your liking. You can always craft your materials in something else to sell (granite into cut stones, for example). The price of the crafted material might also be more profitable, and be more worthwhile than selling the mined material. Auto synth is great for this.

Also do you research on what the ideal amount that is needed, for whatever your selling. If the material is only used in groups of let's say 5, 10 and 20, it wouldn't make sense to sell it in some large stack. More often than not, your buyer will use what they need, and put the remainder back on the market (usually for cheaper). If they only get what they need, then there will be nothing left to put back on the market. You don't want to be responsible for your own competition. You also have a bit more liberty with your pricing, if you are selling in exact stacks (especially if you competition is all selling in stacks of 99).
