    It's not an engine, you're confusing terminology.

    DirectX is an API, essentially like a library that you can reference from or pull bits and pieces from.

    It essentially houses various libraries of things you can pull from for; Sounds/Graphics/General Processing

    They never said it would go hand-in-hand, but that they were simply looking into whether it was feasible or not.

    The armour hasn't changed much.

    Texture were compressed, metallic surfaces don't use the same shader (often) anymore.

    The actual form of the gear is exactly the same.

    The lighting system used in ARR isn't as "Aggressive/Strong", that's why you don't get quite as much detail as you did in 1.0, the normal/bump mapping doesn't' come out quite as strongly as it did before.
    This is also partially due to the textures being compressed more-so than before in some areas.

    1.0's lighting system in some ways was arguable more realistic, it was also inherently flawed, buggy and in most places looked down-right terrible.
    However for ARR to replicate that using the current system would be incredibly intensive on most computers.

    All of the technobabble pertaining to graphics hardware/software goes over my head. All I know is that the DX11 client is sure gonna be pretty.

    Aww to no textures, I swear once they said they were working on decompressing and examining some textures and while it was an arduous process they were at it and then a month later they were like 'nope'.

    Other changes are nice though, the little things can add up (zoomed out quick shots may be hard but large screen slow passing eyes can mean a lot). Improvement is an improvement, so yay .

    It will be fun to revisit some locations after this just to see the changes (beaches, marble Ul'Dah maybe, Limsa stone walls?).

    I want a performance boost. It irritates me that I have a GPU that crushes this game and it the title still isn't optimized for my card.

    I know that feeling. I can run MGS Ground Zeroes at 4k with all at max and get about 40-45 fps yet here I'm stuck at 1440p for this and it struggles to get into the 80's a lot of times.

    We *should* see a boost. If not, they've done something different than other companies in the past...

    I'm not even top tier gpu, but my 960 cuda cores beg for usage.

    I really do hope in the future they decide to release the high resolution textures for those of us who can make use of them. I get the compression for memory limitatons on consols and older systems but come on.

    I'm concerned about the client using Nvidia GameWorks. This has crippled AMD videocard users in the past with other games.
