They need to either let us join all companies at the same time, or have a situation like in FFXI with Windy, Sandy, and Bastok.

Taru for life
NO THANKS, TROLL OP.
WHY NOT ASK TO SWIM UNDERWATER OR GO TO MOON.
GAME IS ALREADY TOO EASY.
Seems like you are all missing the part of the producer letter where it says that after joining a single company, further rewards will be tradeable. Meaning it is like FFXI and you can just buy/sell any items unique to a particular company.
So unless it launches and this was a lie, there is nothing here really to complain about.
its kinda the same in XI the first few missions was the same for all nation in XI up to like rank 5 missions i believe but having all three nations have the same story is a good thing unlike XI where you would be spending like 3+ hrs trying to find someone to do missions with cause they are from a different cityThat's only up to R30 (not sure which Rank) but after that all 3 becomes same storyline from what I read.
And reason why in the latest Japanese game magazine they explained that they want players to think of grand company as a new starting point and deciding which country to start and stick to.
No. Being loyal to and able to progress in only one city's company is good. They will likely have costly ways to switch sides, event tho it isn't likely to be necessary either. The gear we are shown now is just recruit gear. There will be more added to equip all avaliable classes, specific to the city.
More people than you think will chose Gridania and Limsa, with the coming of air ship travel between the 3 city states, there wont be many no anima complaints, not without the no money either complaints, and unless its to coerthans or mor dhona, which chocobo travel will cover unless one is way too lazy for even that (which is expected). Also because of the guildleve change, Ul'dah is slowly losing its convenient location status. New players especially wont be hanging around Ul'dah if they want marks in classes besides those that are in Ul'dah.
Well, letting us do all 3 past recruit is just a bad idea. Others have given good reasons why too. People need to have something to be loyal to. Even though we may be mercenaries now, since we are just recruits, gaining rank will remove that mercenary status. Unless you think it is fine for one to be an officer in the US military and say the Russian military at the same time lol. They have a word for that, and a punishment too if you get cought.
I agree with Reika, I want to show my pride for whichever city I choose, not all three, it just seems odd. I'm torn between choosing Gridania and Uldah..but whichever one I end up with, I'll be proud to show off my chocobo with that city's banner on it.
At first I thought I'd be stuck with Limsa's grand company because of their thamaturge rewards, but if they add items for all classes and/or we can supposedly trade items that we get from grand companies, then there's really no need to join more than one.. (IMO of course)
I'm the few that thinks it should be a permanent decision. You are joining one company and following their rules and whatnot. It's logical that you should only be able to join one company. I mean it's bad enough you get to do almost the same exact missions for each one.
Leave us the decision but make it permanent
Sorry if this has been addressed already. At first this was something I would have liked, but after doing the first three recruit quests, they felt too similar as is. I don't want to do the same content three times every patch day. If this leads to unique and varied storylines for each GC, then I'm all for a method of being able to change allegiance to see the different stories, but if they're going to keep with the "make everything pretty much the same" route, I'd rather they go with locking us in to one company.

Spoke to Yoshida about this to get an answer for you all. You can only belong to one Grand Company and once you join one officially you will be unable to switch allegiances. With that said, we'd like you to check out each of the Companies beforehand and decide which you want to pledge your allegiance to.
