That's one thing I found odd. It makes zero sense that the rewards aren't even from the guilds in the related cities. Like, really?

I thought this was odd also. The only motivation I could think of, is that Limsa currently only has one active DoW/M guild (since musketeers and arcanists aren't active yet). If GC gear ~ city guilds, Grid and Ul'dah would have gear for three classes, while Limsa would only have one.

currently every quest in the Grand Companies is mirrored between the three. I fully expect that this will continue.

I expect the gear from GCs will continue to be equivalent stat-wise to good crafted gear, so no one will be losing effectiveness by choosing a GC. GC Gear is intended (I believe) to help give the nations a sense of identity within the players' minds.

Getting some of those outpost warps were a LONG time coming. Like the saruta ones O_O. Sure felt good when I got them though.

That's another thing I miss about FFXI hah, I'd almost forgotten.


As for the OP, just switch when you're done with one. It's what I'll do. When I get the item I want I'll switch back to my own cities company. All the extra work for a few items is a pain but oh well. The items might not even end up being useful.

Hehe, yeah I had nothing against Bastok =) In fact, Gustaberg was my favorite place to level new jobs back in the day (I just loved the music!). But yeah, it was great having pride in a nation and just focusing on one for a bit. When "Lastok" started winning 1st and 2nd place, it definitely made a lot of us Sandies and Windies start taking things a bit more seriously. It was kinda fun!

How do you know that the Gridania company don't give you a Lance after you joined them? You have only seen the recruit shop list, not the whole list. The NPC say this to you, too. They only show you the whole list after you joined them.

Some random thoughts of mine.

Generally I like the idea of devoting myself to one couse. This is especially fun, since all 3 companies seems to concnetrate on something else, like Gridania would likely deal with Mhigo resistance and Ul'dah trying to keep trade going.

However, there are 2 things that irritate me.

First, which is not a problem at the moment, the only way to experience all 3 companies would be to have 3 characters, but any additional character would mean higher monthly fee to play the game. That means for me, that at the very least one should be able to change companies later, once one is done.

Second, as mentioned before, gear. I love gridania, and the resistance movement in Mhigo seems very interesting to me, so I'd love to join there... but IIRC (I only recently begun to play again, so there are holes/errors in my knowledge) gridania does not have weapons for gladiator, my main class.

I in no way want to join all three companies, I muchly prefer to be loyal to one and have a sense of "home" in the game.

However, I'm really really praying that you can do the content be they leves or quests with people from other countries. I remember the days of trying to track down a full party of Windurst citizens for some inane high level quest in XI. However they work it, I just hope that every body present to help kill things doesn't have to be of the same alliance.

I admit ... a lot of this hope is because I'm the lone Gridania in a group of stinky Uldah lovers and I don't want to be forced to join the company I don't want just so I'm able to take part in content/not left trying to find a PUG.

I was happy to see that they will be introducing tradable rewards from the companies in 1.19, and likely all stuff that you have to join to get will be tradeable.

This is a much better solution I think than letting (making) people join all 3 companies just to get the items.

Perhaps, is to "force" people out of Ul'dah.

Broken way of going at it in my opinion. Maybe there is something they intend to do that will make sense of this. We'll see I guess.

I like the idea of choosing one and sticking with it. But, I also don't like the thought of my home nation might not offering the gear I want since I will be going with my home nation no matter what.

i say no to being able to join all 3 at once if you want to join another company pay gil to do so similar to XI's City States
