Well something like if you wanna buy a item from different company you will pay 3 times more or similar like that...^_^

I like this, I expect much farther down the road to be able to switch to experience the storylines but as is it's great to finally have a decision in the game thats actually important!Spoke to Yoshida about this to get an answer for you all. You can only belong to one Grand Company and once you join one officially you will be unable to switch allegiances. With that said, we'd like you to check out each of the Companies beforehand and decide which you want to pledge your allegiance to.
From that logic you're also suggesting that we should all be able to switch our starting cities and experience each city's stories...It makes no sense. It also makes less sense for people to be able to switch and experience each and every grand company when the main idea was for everyone to commit and be loyal to ONE. Their faction standings would be extremely messed up if people switched all the time..I generally don't like irreversible decisions in MMORPGs. For something major like this, there should be some way to experience each storyline / each company.
But basically what's going to happen here is since most people are in Ul'Dah, most people will join the Ul'Dah company and the other two will be generally weaker.
In genral, I'd be content with having GC rewards tradable, althought I would prefer to have every GC offer gear for all classes.
What irritates the [selfcensored] out of me is that in order to experience all 3 companies I have to pay money. IIRC monthly fee will be 11 dollars for 1 character and the game and 3 dollars per additional character. So if I want to see the storyline of all 3 companies I have to pay 50% more per month. Not fun. Not fun at all.
Then there comes the fact, that you can learn all jobs on one character, but if you have to level 3 characters to experience all 3 companies, why bother?
In the end, while the system as it is is passable it is by no means satisfactory. Just my opinion of course.
One idea (from posters) I really liked was to make GC sell slightly diffrent gear for all classes and make it look diffrent. I was always irritated in WoW how everyone with maxed gear looked exactly the same. Having the ability to choose several diffrent outfits without loosing (too much) stats would be great.
Edit: one of the few good things that interested me in FFXI (not that I played it in the end) was the ability to experience entire game (meaning classes and stories) with one character. I'd rather have something similar in FFXIV.

should pay more seals if you want to buy items from a different allegiance. not a bad tax, and its fair in my opinion.
Why not make it a system like XI where you could switch nations but would have to lose your story progression up to that point since all 3 nations had their own separate storylines?
I do worry about a decision like this at this point n the game where the lack of content is a major issue. By blocking players out of 2/3rds of company quests the patches might boost the quality of the game overall but from a perspective of one player that's only a tea-spoonful of content they get to play out of all the quests being put into the game.
I'd rather have sub or limited extra story added (more content) based off what happens in the other city's.Why not make it a system like XI where you could switch nations but would have to lose your story progression up to that point since all 3 nations had their own separate storylines?

I prefer the idea of being locked into a company really, gives the game more direction, a consequence for your actions.
Not enough of that theses days in games especially mmo's, but then i started in Eve.
My pure issue is that We could be forced to chose based on 1 class or look.
(which isn't even in-line with the games state when we chose starting city's to make it worse.)
Not getting to chose from which story looks most interesting to us or which city we picked to start with.
Which is how we should be picking imo.
Also what about any new classes & Jobs
Yes Ok I doubt the Best End game gear will be from grand company's as that really would be a huge over site to lock people into a Company without all the classes/jobs in game when they choose but still not the point.
Yeah, I agree with this. I mean, there is a degree of finality and lack of flexibility about it but I think it helps since it makes you sit down, take a look at all of them and make a calculated decision instead of just jamming through cut sce- dismissing the importance of it.
Joining all 3 companies would make the system dull and just add to the boring aspect of this game. With us only being able to join 1 company they are likely to put some sort of competition system between the 3 companies, which will make things way more interesting. They won't be able to work with the system nearly as much if people can join every company at once. In the future I wouldn't mind seeing a system where we can switch allegiances with the companies as long as it starts us at the lowest point in whatever rank system they have.
This. I don't know the exact implications, but I don't think I'll be seeing as much of my friends as I do now since they have to go off to other companies for X hours / days, and grouping with them will decrease. I could go make more friends, but I'm out of friend dust and wine...
