More interested in the card gimmick myself. I want to see shuffle and draw mechanic. Something like having 6 carded skills and pressing medium cooldown shuffle skill gives you access to 3 random skills from the deck. You can use only those 3 until you can shuffle for another 3 random draws. Then you have another shorter skill that throws one card back into the globe and draw another card. For some degree of stability you can use another skill that locks down a card to prevent it from taken away on the next shuffle or redraw.
Otherwise i dont really care what it does as a healer cause i aint healing!
Yeah the card gimmick is what sells it for me too. Ace in Type-0 also had a shuffle and draw mechanic and we know for a fact that we have 6 different kinds of cards. I wonder if we can combine them like the Mundras.

Given the fact the Astrologist in FFT had an arena wide Stop ability and Corsairs were the card dealing class in XI that handled AoE buffs, I can see Astrologians to be a more party wide support buff with heals attached. Time will tell how this will mesh different from BRD, assuming they go this route.
I'm looking forward to seeing more information about Astrologians as S-E releases it.
I am personally hoping it is a HoT healer as I played a Resto Druid back in WoW so that would make me gleeful of revisiting that era~

I think Astro might be the perfect solo healer when overgeared (or at gear level).
It sounds like it can do throughput AND mitigation, just not at the same level of white mage and scholar.
As for cross class skills...they don't need virus or E4E, so that's the obvious choice for me. Arcanist skills are very meh WHEN COMPARED to conjurer and Thuama skills. If you need virus for a fight you can just get a summoner.
Please don't ever play a scholar. And who would you blame for everyone dying, due to you not being comfortable DPSing, yes the healer. Not only is it unnecessary for the healer to DPS but its also an extra. And people that push for the healers to DPS are going to cause a shortage in the role which is really counterproductive look at how many tanks actually play. We don't need people to avoid playing healers because the community demanded that they DPS.

Honestly, I do not find it interesting at all.
Chanter could main heal but at first was definitely secondary, thats another story though. It had static buffs that could be turned on that boosted different stats. Depending on how it was spec'd it could have 3 or 4 static buffs up at once. It could boost attack, matk, pdef, mdef, run speed, and patk speed, matk speed. It was a beast in PvP solo or in group. So, I'm imagining the astrologian as something similar. Uses cards to boost stats. I think at most it will be able to hold 2 buffs up. If it has to keep popping them like how most cd's are in FF with stupid short up times I will definitely hate it. It needs long up times or actually solo healing will be ridiculous for light party's.
Looking at what we seen so far the new jobs just seem to be permutations of existing jobs DKs = MRD/pld, Astro = WHM/sch, Mach = BRD/?
Wouldn't be surprised if "No base classes!" was a troll, because the requirement are jobs (thinking 50/30 if this turns out to be the reality of things).

I honestly don't see any reason to expect that currently. I mean, I do expect there to be some sort of requirements, but I'm pretty sure these aren't combination jobs. Also not really sure how you get Astrologian as being a combination of White Mage and Scholar beyond the obvious statement of all three are healers.
I'm not saying they're combination jobs but unlock requirements, since SE is showing efforts to make cross classing a thing of the past.I honestly don't see any reason to expect that currently. There's a spot for an AoE buff healer that's screaming to be filled. A healer that has it's few basic heals and then abilities at that amplify the potency of those heals for itself and other healers, a buff to reduce the mp cost of abilities.
Given that an astrologist uses the positions of celestial bodies to make predictions of future events, I expect to see a HOT healing class with some time-related abilities (haste, slow, stop, reflect, refresh, regain, reraise, etc.)
