    While I'm fairly certain that at least one turret will be used to deal area effect damage, I think it would be pretty boring if all the turrets did was deal damage. You really only need one turret to do that.


    Also, while video footage shows the Machinist targeting and placing the turret next to him, I have this little wriggling thought in my head that turrets might be off-hand items - equipped like shields, basically - with their own individual stats. Any turret you deploy will basically have the same function, but its appearance will be based on the turret equipped. The turret's function will depend on what turret-ability you select for it. In other words, say you have three turret abilities. You choose the second one and deploy the turret and it performs that ability. But the turret's appearance will be based on the one equipped in the off-hand. I'm certain that I'll be way off on this.

    As a fun note, the Machinist is a our first "magitek" job. It might be fun to role play with this a bit (My poor character, despite being born in Eorzea, can't cast or use magic, so he became a machinist, instead).

    The success of the turrets will be the selling point for most ppl imo
    Can't be worst than the weeks after 2.4 when duty finder was literally useless.

    By the way the decision to launch a dps a tank and a healer job at the same time is pure genius. Gonna roll all three.

    You guys, primal weapons! I really wish I had even an ounce of artistic talent in my body so I could draw out different Machinist gun ideas for the primals. Obviously each primal gun will follow the pattern, but the most important one is the Moogle gun.

    If it doesn't have a little "Bang!" flag coming out of the barrels, it'll be a huge opportunity lost.

    Super excited for Machinist. I love SMN but Machinist is just so stylish I don't think I'll be able to resist switching mains if it's even slightly fun. The turret idea is intriguing. I've always liked support-ish DPS, so I hope it's more fun than BRD.

    The AF looks a little like my NIN glamour, too, so I'm liking it even more.

    Since there is no base class required for this in heavensward, are they doing away with base classes for other jobs as well?

    That's not likely. Doing away with classes requires redesigning either Schalor or Summoner, which will cause a massive uproar no matter which way it happens, it also requires rewriting all of the class quests, and if they make the Job Soulstones the arbiter of your job (which they can't because of the Disciples of the Hand/Land), completely rewriting the logic the Armory system uses.

    All future Jobs will likely just not have classes.

    In regards to the turrets, what first came to mind for me when I heard them talked about was something similar to Geomancer from ffxi. I sort of envision stationary turrets that get placed via a targeting circle, and continue to function until they either run out of hp, or are recalled. Of course, there will be a degree of control as, that's just the kind of game this is, and I imagine they will be controlled about the same as any other pet. This is of course, all speculation, but then, that's all this thread is anyway.

    I'm hoping we can deploy more than one at once. Turret based classes in other MMOs are all built on using combinations of deployed turrets and this sets them apart from other pet classes. If we can only deploy a single turret then we basically have a gimped summoner... Being stationary also means the turrets should do more damage than a SMN pet based solely on the fact that they require precise placement and are neutralised simply by moving away.
