While I'm fairly certain that at least one turret will be used to deal area effect damage, I think it would be pretty boring if all the turrets did was deal damage. You really only need one turret to do that.


Also, while video footage shows the Machinist targeting and placing the turret next to him, I have this little wriggling thought in my head that turrets might be off-hand items - equipped like shields, basically - with their own individual stats. Any turret you deploy will basically have the same function, but its appearance will be based on the turret equipped. The turret's function will depend on what turret-ability you select for it. In other words, say you have three turret abilities. You choose the second one and deploy the turret and it performs that ability. But the turret's appearance will be based on the one equipped in the off-hand. I'm certain that I'll be way off on this.

As a fun note, the Machinist is a our first "magitek" job. It might be fun to role play with this a bit (My poor character, despite being born in Eorzea, can't cast or use magic, so he became a machinist, instead).
