Killer Lag - How do I know if it's just on my end?

Hi all, I've been experiencing really bad lag the past few weeks. I play on PS3 and have a wireless connection but things have mostly been fine the last year and a half.

The bad lag seemed to start around 2.4 and it's only gotten worse. I have had my router replaced and someone from my ISP came up to my house checking for issues. He said there was some packet loss and it was supposedly fixed. However, the problem persists.

I don't appear to have disconnects or loading issues with the internet outside of the game. It seems fair to conclude the problem is with the game or game servers, right? Any ideas what to do about this? I'd really like to play like I used to. The lag is killing the fun

First thing you wanna do is find out if its "Lag" or Framerate issues.

if youre having issues you can either use the pre-determined settings to lower the quality of the game (it does make a impact however it still looks stunning low quality) or go custom, i went custom and edited my shadows and it boosted my FPS greatly. but i never had issues i just like to play it safe.

If you have actual network issues, check your latency with the game server

Open up a the run interface (Windows Button + R)
Type in ‘CMD’ – this will bring you to the command prompt
Type in ‘PING <IP Address>’ – you can find IP addresses of each FFXIV ARR server below

    FFXIV-ARR-Ping-Latency-Check
    North America Datacentre | square-enix.montreal.com | IP address : 184.107.107.176
    Europe Datacentre | eu.square-enix.com | IP address : 209.130.141.243
    Japan Datacentre | jp.square-enix.com | IP address : 202.67.53.202

(your ping will be the AVERAGE trip times per millisecond)

However, if its network issues it may just be your connection, i recommend running a speedtest of your network on www.speedtest.net

if these issuess persist, try a modem reset and so forth, if this doesnt fix it:

1 - if youre on wireless, try a wired connection
2 - if youre on wireless but cant go wired, contact your ISP, they can generally boost your modems output signal, i had this done for me at my house and it did improve my over-all range.
3 - check your modem isnt over-heating / you have a clear connection (no wall penetration, stuff like that, this can slow a wireless connection)

Edit: Just seen the PS3 bit.. that still could be an issue, they had issues with the shiva battle performance due to limitations, consider a console upgrade, however still check this on PC for your net resolvement

    if you have a windows pc, hit winkey + r to open a run prompt, type in cmd, hit enter. a dos prompt will pop up. put this in;

    tracert 199.91.189.23

if you get high pings or loss late in the trace there isnt anything you can do about it. if it's right off the bat its on your end.

I on occasion have bad lag sometimes, but Im also very far from the NA data centers, Ive used VPN's and programs like battleping/WTFast in the past. All 3 alleviated the issues for me when it was server side (the tracert problem mentioned above). (except for when the DDoS attacks happened of course)

I'm not sure what is causing the issue for you, and there are many folks out there that have this problem. If the tracert shows high pings or losses late in the trace, like bideogames mentioned, you could try a VPN, it may help, but its an added cost.

Thanks for the suggestions but just a reminder: I'm on PS3.

For PS3 it might just be frame rate issues because the PS3 has a hard time keeping up with all the information it needs to process and display to you.
