Lower levels. Rentals will prolly be accessible to all levels. But owning your own chocobo will be a higher level thing from the Companies. Just guessing~

Yeah, I remember XI having this, but I'm REALLY hoping that won't be the case in XIV. If I already own the chocobo there's no reason that I shouldn't be able to summon it any time I want to.

They should just make rent-a-chocos an alternative for lower levels and make it so you have to be over say level 40 to have your own chocobo via quest or something.

chocobos will apparently already have some restrictions on them, seeing as how we will need to do a quest for them. Im guessing it will have a low level cap to use them (10+ i would assume, until your out of your first camp its not really needed) and if there was no planned restrictions on the personal ones, they wouldnt even bother with the rentals.

besides...i dont want to work my chicken to death and need that creepy shaman to bring it back...

My guess is it's higher level for a personal one, since you need notoriety with your grand company... I would like specifics though, what level, how much does it cost, and how long does it take to get? I'd like to be prepared when the day comes to get it as quickly as possible.

Well, in FFXI personal chocobos:
1) had to be raised from egg to adulthood before riding (took about a month i think)
2) personal chocobos were often times slower than rental chocobos.
3) personal chocobos sometimes had a shorter riding duration than rentals.
4) If you wanted faster and or longer riding time chocobos you had to breed several generations to fine tune atributes. (this could take months)

Now I'm not saying FFXIV chocobos will be the same as FFXI chocobos. But I'll as far to say Personal vs Rental there will be either speed or riding time will be reduced compared to rentals.

Or there is going to be a terrible cool down timer between calling for a ride like 1 ride per 36 hours

I just really hope it's not like that in this game. Yes, I would like to devote a lot of my time to my chocobo, but it shouldn't hinder my reasoning for ever wanting my own chocobo.

but the grand companes doesnt have job for DoH and DoL right ? so far only DoW and DoM have quest at grand companies. If I am a crafter only than I ll have to force myself to do the DoW/DoM in order t get my own chocobo, if I really want it I have to do that, its fine, just suck in some point

Chocobo raising and breeding in XI was very complex but only very time consuming if you did it alone.
The system was set up to have player to player interaction. If i hatched a chocobo that had the attribute of having a long riding time, and you hatched a chocobo that had high rate of speed. We could then mate our chocobos and hatch the resulting eggs into a bird that had potential higher speed with longer riding time.

It worked the same for raising different colored chocobos.

It was a deep and complex system *IF* you wanted it that way.

I just raised a basic chocobo which had slow speed (still faster than running) and a moderate riding time. It was nice and convenient to call when out in the middle of no where. If I were in a city I would rent.
