Well, that is my sentiment somehow. Why is there only one way to play each class? That being go get the job and max out your primary numbers. For DRG it's always STR, DTR, CRIT, then practice and memorize your best rotation. Granted, that's how you play the game but...You'd end up being mostly the same as people would find a "what works best" and demand you use that "what works best." or they will get rid of you. Having jobs makes this entire process of knowing what works best easier.
Marauder is already one, for now. Healing on a DPS class doesn't work in this game and you need to do a lot to make Gladiator into a DPS, it's why it's forced to spam flash early on if you don't have other DPS skills, such as B4B, or raging strikes to increase it's attack.
You already have that option rather you use it and find it "fun" is a different story.

But... sadly we are being funneled into a cookie cutter build for each job. In terms of finding "what works best", that has always been the case even now with jobs and gear ilvl and it's not going away. However, if your crazy build somehow manages to be on par with respective jobs (or even a different role), then why should we discourage the freedom to do such build? That way we could move variety in our playerbase playstyles. We could perhaps see an evasive tank as a pugilist or rogue, or maybe a swashbuckling damage dealing swordsman, or a pseudo geomancer of a conjurer.

To your second, you'd still be funneled into a cookie cutter build for each job due to the above. Unless you solo, which you already have this.

There is no edit button on mobile.
I exclusively use mobile(can't use forms and game at the same time). It's annoying.
I guess there is no escaping the funnel. Well, at least can I plead they make the funnel a bit bigger? Give more versatility to the classes so they're not totally useless end game. At present jobs are the *only* way to play each respective class. I really do not mind that if I am going duty finder stuff (you don't know who you're partying with so... I guess respect by going cookie?), but somehow I hope I can be free to go for any build while out in the open world, doing fates, and partying with friends who know and accept your deviant setup.

Well, now the patch notes say that only jobs can use LB, so there's another way classes are getting displaced. Doesn't seem we'll gat any more base classes.
To be more specific, Only jobs can use LB3 which are those awesome looking flashy moves specific to each job as demonstrated in a video.
But still, classes are still screwed in the patch notes as All new actions are for Jobs. Like Blizzard IV and Fire IV for BLM instead of THM, Stone III and Aero III for WHM instead of CNJ.
