    No More Classes?

None of these new Jobs have Classes attached to them. Do we hate Classes now? Arcanist is my favorite thing in the game right now because it's playing with a base skill set in very different ways. I love the dynamism and was hoping we'd see more like that with the other existing classes. Instead it looks like we're setting up to do away with them completely! I really hope that's not the case.

I think they're doing away with them because they aren't going to add these new jobs at character creation, so if you will, they don't need new classes as it requires you to level another one first anyway.

But I agree, I was hoping to see more class/job divergences like SCH/SMN

Classes are essentially useless, and we'd be much better off without them. I'd rather see SCH get their own dps skills that borrow from SMN, and I think many would rather be able to allocate bonus stats differently to SMN and SCH rather than them share a set. There's really very little legitimate reason to use a class once you have the job, and the cons heavily outweight the pros, so what's the benefit of having classes as a system to begin with?

I think they'll keep the class sytem, and just not use classes in the future. I'd rather they just junk classes altogether, though, and make the guilds solely for lore value. It sure doesn't look like they are adding a musketeer class any time soon!

Sorry, I couldnt disagree with you more. Classes are needed, without classes you paint yourself into a corner and then What? At least if you have classes new jobs can branch of of them. ie: Ranger from archer. Samurai from Glad. I could going forever,so lets not throw away ours classes so quick. Just my opinion
ps. I still use my classes, its my choice.

You'll have to explain this. If they removed classes, what exactly would prevent them from just making a Samurai or Ranger?

Consideing the failure of SMN/SCH branching from ACN (can't use both to their max potential at the same time, unable to balance one without imbalancing the other...), I'm pretty sure there won't be any more branching jobs in the near future. Not until the sort things out.

Easy like that. And there's always a possibility of new jobs with the same specs branching from the same class. Like SMN/Necromancer branching from ACN or BRD/Ranger branching from ARC and using DEX as main stat...
see failure #2 to see why it's still not a good idea. Also, see the bunch of threads asking for an upgrade of SMN and the lack of available solutions without making SCH OP in a way or an other

I agree with Hiruke. The class system is useless. we should start as the JOB, as the level 1 class; at 30 we take the new questline by proving we have a grasp at our secondary skillset. So as a level 30 paladin, we take the quest that proves we have a grasp of white magic; gaining our Soul Crystal which increases our stats and allows us to continue the Paladin Storyline; leading us into our Artifact Gear.

"Welcome to the ranks of the blue mages. However, at this moment you are but an empty vessel--a base creature, weaker than the most ordinary mortal. A blue mage must wrest her strength and vitality from her enemies. Show me your hunger for unrivaled power! This is the only guidance I shall give you."

To me the big advantage comes from versatility, you level one class and you can fulfill 2 roles. I also like that it gives weight to the Bonus Point allocation system in the first place, there doesn't seem to be much point if everyone does it the exact same way. This way it forces you to make a decision, not like you couldn't change it later if you wanted to. To me the purpose of the class isn't to use it independent of Jobs but to serve as the foundation to how you approach a given role. That's why I was really hoping to see more classes get a 2nd Job attached since in most every case, the class is indeed useless.

I hope they turn the classes into there own jobs. >3>
My question is, if they get rid of classes, how are they going to handle Scholar and Summoner?
