Why take away the only thing that is making them somewhat unique/different? (okay, maybe horns can be unique in some way... if incredibly doofy on the males. Tail isn't really unique)
I also thought that scale coloring was racial. I also assumed scale patterns was tied to the face you choose, similar to Miqo'te facial stripe patterns, verses the facial scales replacing tattoos. Though, I wouldn't mind either option.
maybe the very scaly face is exlusive to Yugiri?
The fact there is nothing strange in expecting playable "beastly" characters in japanese RPGs. Whether they're premade or not is irrelevant.
Except.... that they all are, just in varied ways. Sun Seekers can't have blue skin and the slanted pupils. Hellsguard can't have green skin and the black nose. While I've met quite a few players that simply ignore these rules for roleplaying, this visual restrictions are exactly why we have the two "tribal" options for all game's races.
While all the images we've been shown offer us a handful of skintones and scale patterns, we've only seen the two extremes on scale color; black or white.
We gotta remember we actually know NOTHING about the racial differences otherwise, like the naming conventions. Yugiri's name is vaguely Japanese sounding to follow the theme with all the Doman people, but we don't know if that's unique to her, her light scaled tribe or Au Ra in general!
