New Race Announced! The Au Ra

I don't know where this came from, but there has been nothing offical about them being descendants from shiva, most of their lore is unknown.

In Bold, that's why the Au Ra race bothers me. Males = Elezen+Roegadyn(+doofy looking horns) and females = Elezen/Midlander Hyur with horns. Also, when I first saw the female Au Ra, I thought I was looking at Serah Farron from FFXIII. They definitely did try to make the males look slightly different, but with females... not really.

As much as it amused me to think of the Au Ra women crying so much that they had water physics down their shirts, I don't really see much stronger of a resemblance than there is between any two women. Is it the pink hair?

I have to say i personally like the looks of the Au Ra male, and will by trying it out when released. What i am surprised at is how much of a polemic issue this has become with the community O.o.

Although one interesting thing is that people have kind of jumped the gun on the Au Ra being desendants of shiva and dragons, as i dont think any of the lore has actually been confirmed. It will be interesting to find out about their culture and heritage in the lore of FF14.

I love the size difference of the two genders btw, I find it cute in itself.

What I really want at this point though is a benchmark with character creation tool allowing us to preview several of the option intended for the Au Ra.
Another thing I want from the community is a size comparison chart of all race's "Small;Mid;Large" sizes with Au Ra included in it.

Also am I the only one who thinks of Leviathan ~The Last Defense~ in response to this race? Google it if you don't know the series.

I don't think Au'ra is bland or boring. Personally I think the artists are working within established themes of Eorzea with the Au'ra; and they look good.

there is also the fact that we have yet to see any of the customization options for the race other than the 2 tribes and the models they chose to show us, for all we know they will have a lot of really cool options.

All i want to say is im happy with the race and i love how its shivas descendants.

please tell us where you got this information about the Au'Ra being Shiva's Descendants. while I would love a rich story that tells us they are her Descendants. thus far everything about them being her descendants is pure speculation. we know nothing of this race other than where in the world they originated from. and visuals based on what the devs chose to show us.

also another note: the devs never once that I'm aware of(please correct me if I'm wrong) stated that the Au'Ra were part dragon. as far as I know that is an assumption made by the players due to their horns and scales

During the quests leading up to Snowcloak, the quest dialogue informs us that Shiva was a Saint in Ishgard until she 'lay with a Dragon' and was branded a Heretic.
So if we extrapolate that Shiva has a very Elezen appearance, and the Au Ra have draconic features along with Elezen features, its incredibly heavily implied that the Au Ra came from that union between Shiva and the Dragon.

yes I read them. that still does not mean they are her descendants. they never once mention that she even had offspring.
only that she 'lay with a dragon'. where is it implied? cause I think you are reading into something that simply isn't there. I saw no implication at all that the Au'Ra were even remotely tied to the Ishgard/Shiva story.

oh wait I read your post wrong. it's pure speculation on the part of the players even still. the devs have givin us nothing. maybe they will give us something in patch 2.5 so we have some idea where they are actually going with this rather than speculation.

as I said in my previus post I wouldn't mind this speculation to be true. but we don't even know they are part dragon. they could be part some other race SE has yet to reveal to us. afterall more than just dragons have horns and scales. some lizards have horns and scales and while the story might not be as cool it would make as much sense
