    FINALLY HAVING FUN AGAIN! :3

I just finished the long road of getting my DoM classes up to 30. I'm going to at least get all the classes to 30 before I specialize. That way I can unlock all the jobs at some point.

I was a little ....... about CNJ, but learned to love it. ARC was stupid... only cool thing was the pet. BLM was a nice change of pace. In hind sight. I think I should have played CON up to protect and cure, then 30 lvled BLM, then CNJ, and finished out with ARC.

In any event, I decided to go tank role since DRK is coming out and I know that's going to be MRD/THA. I've never played a tank role in any game (though have tanked was a dps... all too often). What a change of pace this was. MRD is so much fun and pretty simple so far. I just run around doing overpower if ppl (dps) are nubbing around too much. What was cool is that I was able to watch how tanks play as a healer role and again as THA. By the time I roled MRD I already knew the basics. First time tanking was simple and the following time was even better.

I'm still learning how to control TP expenditure. Assuming dps don't pull aggro, I don't have to do overpower more than once (maybe twice in a longer fight). I've pretty much change my mind about who I will take to lvl 50. I was going to do WHM or SCH since healing roles always get the party invites. While I want to mine a dps, I know that there are too many resulting in 5~20 mins queues. I think I might run WAR instead (though will probably do healer role).

I wouldn't have thought I would enjoy tanking, but it's pretty awesome. I don't like great axes though... Idk if DRK will get 2/h swords or scythes, but either would be fine by me. I actually thought MRD dual wielded (hence the 2 axes on the icon).

    Well, actually...
DRK has already been confirmed to have no base class, so there will likely be no requirement to have THM leveled.
They have also been confirmed to wield a two-handed greatsword, so that probably means Marauder, being an axe wielding class, likely won't be required either. Or at least, certainly not in the traditional sense.

This was all confirmed in London Fanfest 2014, where many of the 3.0, Heavensward, details were released.

To be fair, Black Mages don't really hit their big stride until at least 38 when Blizzard III lets them hard-shift between Astral and Umbral.
I can't comment on how different Summoner is from Arcanist, but Scholar's a fun enough twist of adding healing to it that it's worth a shot.
For tanking in specific, you might want to run Gladiator up to at least level 22. Flash at 8 is amazing for mixing MP into your enmity and Provoke at 22 is expected of you in many later fights.

MRD and THM may still be cross-class for Dark Knight. We have no details on the job's mechanics though, so it's pure speculation. As said by Theo though, Dark Knight is a Job with no base class. This has been confirmed and you may consider it as the development team removing some of the outdated game features of 1.0.

It's very easy to spend too much TP on overpower, although things get easier once you have butchers block + defiance for the full enmity combo. Also, Warrior gets one of the more complicated rotations in the game by alternating between 3 possible combos that either increase enmity, increase damage dealt to the enemy (slashing only), or decrease damage the enemy deals. It's a very powerful job.

I mean, originally I was referring to the job's composition (Like THM/ARC for BLM), but let's take a look at the current cross-class skills anyway:
    Surecast
    Blizzard II
    Swiftcast
The rest are all THM/BLM exclusives.
I can maybe see Surecast/Swiftcast if DRK ends up playing more like a mage with casting spells and such (though I don't think it will.), and Blizzard II is kinda
    well
    useless for a tank.
None of the other THM skills really benefit a tank, so I don't think they'll be changing any of them to cross-class with it.
I dunno, I just don't see it happening.
Mostly because if THM was their main cross-class, there just likely wouldn't be any skills of value for it, unless maybe the level 50+ skills can be cross-classed and they're more beneficial.

A lot of what you guys have posted I figure to be true. Here's the thing, I figure how the jobs are, moving forth, is that you will need to fulfill a class requirement like we have now, but the job will have it's own set of skills (and likely start at lvl 1 b/c SE wants people to level up and play the game longer). Like Theodore said, DRK won't likely have much need for most of the THA skills (Bliz 2 has some good utility). MAR/THA makes sense in the FF scheme, but having to pump 2 INT and STR isn't easy in this game due to how SE made armor to work. Might have some type of stance to swap STR with INT or will play entirely different only requiring Piety or something.

Won't know till it comes out. Been loving MAR for a good time now. I'll definitely level GLD since I need all the classes at least to 30 while lvling up a select few to 50 for the jobs I want to play.

DRK will have to CC PLD or be given it's own "provoke" ability. I really hope they give their own provoke skill.

As someone who has all the battle classes to 50, just have to say, if you've gotten all the classes to 30, and you plan to one day raise them all...

I've spent over a year leveling all the classes, and I still have to finish Fisher. Anyways, glad you like tanking so much, but don't ignore the other classes, as many of them don't actually flesh out until level 50. Monk, for instance, gets a pretty big skill for their combos at level 50. Black Mage dishes out the big guns with Flare at level 50. White Mages get the proverbial cake walk in party healing with Medica 2 at level 50. Take a moment to research each one of them and the skills they have, figure out how they are suppose to mesh together. Also, some things can't really be appreciated until they are put together or used in combat. Examples are things like Fight or Flight on Paladins with the cross class skill Bloodbath, or Black Mage Penta-Flare (Flare, Transpose, Flare, Convert, Flare, Mega-Ether, Flare, Transpose, Flare). These are things that can’t be fully appreciated until seen or performed. Healers can really amaze too. Party takes a massive hit from an AOE?WHM-Divine Seal, Medica 2, Swiftcast, Medica. Or Scholar-Fey Illumination, Whispering Dawn+Succor, Swiftcast, Succor.
