    Copying UI data

I was rather disappointed by this games lack of cross characyter UI copying, but I noticed that you can copy the configuration files from one character to another in the games folders. The main problem with that is the character folders have numbers and not names so I haven't a clue which character is which.

How to I know who is who in my game folder?

ADDENDUM: Never mind, figured it out.

@Asheilin: They're all in "C:\users\[USERNAME]\Documents\My Games\FINAL FANTASY VIX - A REALM REBORN" Each FFXIV_CHR folder is a different character, I'm not sure how to tell which character is which though. The .DAT files hold the UI data and other client-side data and most of their names are fairly self-explanatory.

Hijacking the thread a little bit to ask another question:

Does anybody know a decent program to sync a specific folder from one computer to another? I usually use dropbox to move my UI layout from my regular PC to my laptop whenever I know I'll be using it for FFXIV, but I'd rather just keep the files on my laptop synced with those at home. I've tried SpiderOak before (I think that would do the trick), but it's rather clunky and I'd prefer not to rely on it.

Hi. I used to change a lot this when moving from certain servers and using alts time ago...

for realizing which character is which you have to enter the /log directory and check logs, in some of them you'll see the name of your character. Later on you can create a single archive without extension at all with the name of character, so next time you go to the folder you can see instantly who's the char.

Log into one of your characters and make some change in the UI or settings, just to make sure the game saves that file to remember your change. (You can change it back later.) Log out of the game (without logging into any of your other characters) and take a look in each of those character folders. Hopefully, the character you were just logged in with and made a change to should be the only one whose files were updated, so you can check the file time to identify which it is. The folder with the most recently updated file should be the character you were just on.

If the software does something really bizarre, like saving all your characters' data when only one of them had changed, then I guess you could resort to trial and error. Move one visibly obvious UI piece to a different place for each of your characters, then log out of the game. Copy all of those character folders to a temporary place (just to preserve each) and then copy one after another's UI layout to all your characters. Logging into the game to see how it looks would let you learn which folder name corresponds to which of your characters. Rather cumbersome initially, but once you learn which folder is which, at least updating for any future changes you make would be simpler.

I don't have the PC version, so can't try these, but one or the other of those should work (hopefully the first one).
