this is my system info we practically have the same thing you just have a better processor. i run mine with all settings on maximum except for Ambient Occlusion check box and general drawing quality set to standard everything else is at the bottom of the list on maximum setting with full screen and the only lag i get is latency issues with the net and a lot of people online at once

oh and make sure that you have enable hardware mouse cursor box is checked i unchecked it and my mouse cursor lagged to high heaven!

Do not turn on Ambient Occlusion. Do not set your General Draw Quality above 8. If you can't actually tell the differences between say, 8x AA and 16x AA, then turn it down. And I don't mean stare at the screen and try to find the difference. Go do a dungeon run and see if you actually notice the difference.

Go into your Program Files (x86) / Square Enix / Final Fantasy XIV. Right click on ffxivgame.exe and bring up the properties. Disable Desktop Composition (this turns off Aero while the game is running, and will net you anywhere from 5-15 FPS depending our system.) Defrag your hard drive as well; FF14 is extremely susceptible to HD lag.

If you lag seems to be network related and you are using wi-fi, switch to a wired setup if you can. Turn of UPnP in the FFXIV Config.

Anything else left over is probably going to be HDD lag. This game is super sensitive to it. The stuttering experienced in Ul'dah for example is almost always caused by the hard drive and can be mostly eliminated by having a very good drive, or getting an SDD (which in most cases is enough to remove the stuttering)

Solid State Drive. Its basically the same technology used for thumb drives, phone SIM cards, SD cards, Memory Sticks, etc., etc. Only it is put into (typically) a 2.5" or sometimes 3.5" drive bay size, and are much bigger. Intel's are particularly good in terms of best performance to price, with most of the memory companies close behind (Corsair, etc.), and the hard drive manufacturers falling behind in quality. There are also PCIe SSDs which are MUCH MUCH faster than the SATA2/SATA3 drives, but these are typically much more expensive than SATA SSDs, which are already much more expensive than regular hard drives (about 3-4mo ago, 80gb SSDs were as expensive as 1tb external drives)

I didn't realize they had that kind of tech last i knew that kind of memory device was way limited to like 10 gigs at best! i didn't know that they had that big of capacity these days! tech is growing so freaking fast!... my PC has a 1tb HDD in it right now.. whats your opinion of a good sized SSD at a good price?

I have a 450gts and play on 2xMSAA 8 drawing quality 3 background drawing quality shadows high. Depth of field on texture quality high texture filering high. Depth of field does drop my FPS from 60 outside to about 30-40 and in side city from 40-50 to 20-30. So this is the reason i be taking it off when i get back on ffxiv i do enjoy depth of field and i have no lag but i hate seeing my fps that low lol.
