I would like to make some list of how player grind varied from patch to patch since last year.
Focus only on this aspect and give out a bit of suggestion accordingly.
Beginning Phase:
1. Coblyn
Target: Solo Player
Pro: Enhance Solo Play, helps when you can not find a party, or you don't have to wait on party or LS.
Con: Boring, Repetitive, also, only 1 type of monster, 1 style.
2. Behest
Target: Casual Player and all
Pro: Enhace party play, enhace casual play.
Con: Only a few location is likely using. (Mainly Uldah/Limsa region at that time)
3. Leve
Target: Causal Player and all
Pro: Enhance Party experinece, enhance LS experience.
Con: Innovative idea, Badly design and implement overall. (Content, Procedure, Reward..etc)
4. Party Grind not yet to be introduce/focus, old FFXI player not happy about it.
2nd Phase:
1. Coblyn Gone.
Pro: N/A
Con: Erase solo Player's choice
2. Behest increase largely for lower rank, about same for higher rank
Pro: Most player can get multiple class up to r30 easily.
Con: Erase lower rank player / new player experience
3. Leve Link Hugely increase
Pro: Enhance LS play, Enhance Party play
Con: Region population become even more inbalance ( Mainly Uldah), Solo leve not valid
4. Grind Party introduce (example, Raptor)
Pro: Enhance LS play, Enhace party play for higher rank player.
Con: Repetitve, exactly same monster from r4x - r50. Similar to Coblyn situation.
3rd Phase:
1. Behest nerf
Pro: N/A
Con: degrade party play, degrade LS play, degrade new player experience , degrade popularity of gatherig people togther vias various rank.
2. Leve link nerf
Pro:Enhance Solo play, enhance new player experience.
Con: degrade Party play, degrade LS play, degrade popularity of gathering people together vias various rank.
3. Grind Party enhance
Pro: Toward style of FFXI.
Con: Enhance LS play, degrade party play, degrade solo play. Very repetitive becuase you simply grind r30-50 all on raptor.
4. Fatigue Gone
Pro: Good
Con: N/A
Comment/Suggestion:
1. If the current Dev team decide to enhance party grind, you need
a. Vast choice of monster that has surplus sp like raptor around the 5 regoin.
b. Search Function must added.
c. Chain sp will be nice systme to have.
So pretty much like FFXI, hopefully 1.19 and 1.20 is going to add more on this aspect.
But my concern will be , if FFXIV want to become like FFXI, but it has no near size of the world like FFXI, will it success?
2. Redesign Behest, fix Leve
Why? Behest/Leve is a good start to bring player 'around the world'.
this is an important factor. Similar to add various grind monster around the world.
How? 1 main factor, Behest/Leve need to have largely spontanious sp/reward than grind pt.
So people will gather there and party up. Even a short amount of time is fun.
Let say, if Cassipoia has good behest as well as good grind monster. People will start to go there.... well up to dev team to think.
Conclusion:
Maybe I'm not offering much new idea, but I alwasy think about how to make 'new player' stay. All the change in dev team is so important.
currently without leve party/behest gathering party, lots of place gone complete empty.
To be honest, there is only so much raptor party to join. player get bored and tired of it very very soon.
