I hope we have to get new gear at level 52 / 53, replacing our iLvl 130 gear.
And, maybe, the new AF pieces from lvl 55 to lvl 60 (as a starting/basic endgame gear).

Where did SE say that? Just wondering as never saw em say anything about horizontel progression. Only thing I remember is they said about slowing down the power creep with ilvls, not stopping it.
For progression in the expansion:
If they make the content in the expnsion for levelling require 120ish ilvl then it would make it double difficult for new players or those who decide to switch or just level up the new jobs. Which would be discouraging for new players and leave a negative impression.
If they make it so a fresh 50 can level up without gearing then its made less than trivial for those who did.
Only way around it, in my opinion, is to make 51-52ish mobs scale slightly from level 50 mobs, while having easily obtainable gear to equal ilvl 120ish then push the mob difficulty higher with lvl 53+ mobs to give a slight challenge to everyone equally. (We all know they wont make things too challenging:P ).
In other words, first couple of levels into the xpac are to get everyone geared up equally. Which will probs be a combination of quest rewards, dungeon drops and crafted items.

Well, it's pretty clear 3.0 will bring AF2 with it. How strong should AF2 be? Under Final Coil? By the time Final Tower rolls around that'll be the 'standard' so it should be stronger than everything we have at present.
I do not remember SE saying this. I wish they did Vertical progression is not good due to the required content negating that is involved with it, but SE would have to revamp the whole method of how gear works in order to change. I am expecting the new gear to be the same as it is now. At lvl 50 we will have I130 gear with the top raid droping I150. Stats will be the same incremental increase we seen now since the launch of XIV 2.0.
Unless SE says it in a live letter and shows us an example I just do not see them changing anything. They are too worried about everything being ultra balanced to have unique aspects to gear which is required for horizontal progression.
Yep, they said it. It was a community rep who said it. They said something along the lines of "we let the dev team know about you guys wanting horizontal progression, and they know, seeing what they can do" etc.
found it: http://forum.square-enix.com/ffxiv/t...=1#post1838321
yoshida also stated that the ilvl is raising way too high, too fast, and he wants to slow it down, for horizontal stuff. woooot.we did submit the feedback that some of you had for more horizontal progression on rewards.

I'd expect that most people in i120 or i130 gear will likely be fine leveling up until the last few levels. At that point they will probably start finding some decent upgrades.
I expect that most people will zerg fates for leveling, so gear will not be a really big factor at first.
I wouldn't be surprised if ~53 we saw dungeons dropping Sol gear; mostly as a method of gearing up alts and for new players.
I expect there will be only individual ilvl gains instead of increments of five or ten after expansion. That will be the future.

Can someone tell me what the difference is between horizontal and vertical progression?
Ya, that link has nothing really to do with the topic.
