    Relic speed run, needed?

    So...

    I recently had talks about the old days of 1.0, and it just occured to me: what if the current 2.45 relic progression actually requires these speed running stuff like what we had in 1.0 relic reborn version to make higher chance of KI dropped?

    From what I recall, 1.0 actually has 2 version of it when doing AV or CC: speed run and super speed run. While ssr will guarantee you quest item drops, sr only gave u slight chance of getting it, and normal gives you abysmal chance.

    While I cannot make claim if this is true or not for our current situation, I kinda notice these when I got those KI from dungeons:
    - WP & AK, tank pulled everything to boss doors and party proceed to fast-AOE them all.
    - Qarn HM, again tank pulled everything to stop check-point and proceed to fast-AOE.
    - While it's hard to measure current AV & Dzemael, I did also get those when party did faster run than previous normal ones. Like nuking them down faster than before.

    Of course, this is just my assumption. Though I see ppl running with their group/statics did end up finishing them faster. Wonder if this can be confirmed though.

    Any thoughts?

    As far as I read, speed running was needed in 1.0 if you wanted the good drops. People only speed run now so they can finish the run sooner and farm quicker.

    speed running was a thing in 1.0 because certain things didnt drop if you didnt clear fast enough.

    I think OP is saying what if items are gated behind speed runs. I think I'd have to object from the idea as I was in a group where the tank tried to speed run and the healer couldn't keep up and we wiped three times.....

    I still got the drop....

    I would love to see the bonus chest system return from 1.0. There were certain dungeons that the boss could pop up to five chests. But you had to do a number of things to get the extra chests. 1: Kill specific mobs, 2: Open all chests, 3: Beat the run in a specific time frame, 4: Defeat specific boss(for totorak sense you had a choice of beating one boss where the dungeon could end swiftly, or you could fight the hardest to reach boss and get extra chest) I can't recall if there was another, maybe one for no death but i forget now. This system would make dungeons a little more interesting.

    I suppose you want the drop rates from 1.0 Darklight applied to all chests as well right? Even though from others they already seem that way :P

    #5 in 1.0 was indeed no deaths.
    Speed running would appear to be a non-factor currently. Did pharos 34 times for the item from there, the last run was actually the slowest at 22:34 mins. There were deaths and did not open all chests.

    Nah. I got some of the drops in parties with newer people where we couldn't SR.

    For obtaining the drop, you have to joke about obtaining it.... It was what happened to me at least...

    Aurum Vale, dungeon I only did around 7-8 times in a year because it is the one I MOST HATE. Only doing when strictly necessary. I had my fears it'd be 50 times run for the drop.... So I just refused to go and so... Then I had to go for my lolDRG's animus book... Joked with the party about doing the book + obtaining drop, not even myself believed such a thing could happen, to be honest....Then.... After the dungeon.... Vale Bulbo!

    I was just like "D:....." for almost a minute, not believing what just happened, I managed to do a 2 in 1 Aurum Vale, I avoided thousand runs there.... I guess my second dungeon of nightmares (Dz*zfifrnwrnm,a*el darkhold) will be 50 runs as a karma shot.

    OP, if you're asking whether SE has added a "hidden" speed run requirement, I find it to be very, very unlikely. FFXIV tends to be VERY open about the requirements for completing quests and other tasks in the game. If there was a need to complete runs quickly, it would be clearly spelled out in the quest dialogue, not left for players to puzzle out on their own.

    Obviously speed isn't REQUIRED - plenty of people have gotten drops even on slow run. If we start to speculate that a fast run improves the ODDS of getting a drop... That way of thinking leads to madness! Madness, I tell you! Best not to even start, or soon we'll start believing that we've gotta face northeast when killing the boss to improve chances of drop, or drops are more common between 3am and 5am game time...
