There are little plateaus all over the place often times with only way up onto them. And part of the fun of exploration are finding little shortcuts to make your trip a little shorter.Jump is a matter of convenience.

We need features the casual player likes first, some of those were in XI, some of those are standard things other games have.
even jumping like FF13 would require player animation and all the armor to be redone and re-rigged on the 3d models. i would rather they make the art department spend the 2-3 months work on such a thing to introduce new montsers and and battle system animations instead.

i think this whole jump business is trivial. the game was never designed around it. i don't think any FF game was designed around character-based freedom of movement. they were all designed for stuck-on-rails story telling with fantastic battle mechanics. let's wait till they get this game fixed and then see about character freedom, is my final say on this.

No! Better yet, you lose your account, but are FORCED to buy another copy! BAM! Instant revenue for SE, and it'll make it look like they've sold even MORE copies!

And then...we take over the world! MWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAA!!!!!!!!

It would both instill a sense of fear of death that everyone wants, and would also add to that whole immersion/realism thing!

I see no flaws in this idea whatsoever.

It's not my fault that SE didn't properly research the current game market and make sure that FFXIV was going to be able to compete. They claimed they were creating a next-generation MMO that would be a serious contender. I'm holding them to the very standard that they created for themselves.

I'm not saying I'm entitled. But in the end, if I don't get the product that I paid for, I will voice my dissatisfaction with my wallet (ie, when subscription time comes, I will not pay to play).

I would hold any other major company to the same standard. Whether it's Blizzard, Microsoft, or Ford Motor Company.

You wouldn't buy a brand new Mustang without doors, and let the salesman at the dealership tell you, "We'll get them to you in six months." And then feel bad for Ford that they couldn't somehow make a finished product. Would you?

Anyway... these little debates are getting us seriously off topic.

Several people voicing there opinions stating we need xp loss. Few actually coming up with alternatives(even the one worst than xp loss seemed more favorable). Why do we need xp loss? Will the causual player look passed that in XIV? Will this encourage/discourage lowball tactics? Will this make the more players say "Hmmm I will try and tank/heal?" Will this create slander being thrown at the noob player learning the heal/tank roles? These are some of the many important questions yet none have answered no matter how many times i post or reword them. Instead I see few people pulling thoughts out of there ass and handing everyone a piece of shit with this "xp loss brings a challenge."

Dude are you friggin mental or something? Do you even read before you pop in an type a response or do you just hop into "Super Troll" mode right away like the average internet moron? Where was quitting even mentioned in my comments? WTF does Eve Online have to do with this. Whatever Eve's death penalty, their game was designed around that so THEIR dealth penalty works for THEIR game. Last I heard they were not trying to cater to those with 30 minutes of playtime. Don't know if you got the memo buddy but behests, leves were all added as ways to get quick groups going, in the hopes it would help out people with less time on their hands.

lol "Race to the endgame". I don't know if your blind or not but look in my signature, HAD I the intent to race to the endgame I would not have ranked FISHER to 50 as my first job, currently its my only job at 50. Continue to use your lame ass outdated arguments. I find it utterly amusing you chose that 'remark' with someone who's main job is a fisher.

Akumu raises another good point in: XP loss puts a disproportionate amount of pressure on tanks and healers, one of the reasons i played the class I did in XI (in the very brief time i played xi) was the fact that when things were going bad it was considered acceptable for thief to go "peace out" and run away to avoid xp loss.

Now I might have been as drunk then, as I am now...but yes, I loved being able to flee a shitty party in garlaige citadel. Thank you Nephera of reminding me of amazing parties consisting of (but not limited to): "you piece of shit, why did you run away?" "Hey, ask for raise when you get outside!" "The gil sellers will be outside soon, ask for raise when you come back!"
