The people arguing to keep mount-heavy in are absolutely baffling.
Yes, let's keep absolutely pointless annoyances in the game instead of making the open world actually legitimately threatening.

no seriously YOU..
i know "slow" and "Snare" effects in every MMorpg i know.. which MMorpgs have you played before?!
its therefore that you cant escape that easily from mobs. dont you get the point of it?
gawwd you guys... "remove this and this"... bla bla bla..
REMOVE AGGRESSIVE MOBS in the Open World IT DISTURBS ME!! Because aggressive Mobs "are pointless".
REMOVE RANGED ATTACKS FROM MOBS, it disturbs me "its pointless"... and rupts me as a blm anyways.
*SARCASM OFF
Fast Food MMO peops..
YES it disturbs me also some time.. but thats what it is about.. if you remove crowd control skills from mobs, then you can run easily through the beast tribe outposts without any disturbance.. wow thats easy.. as if the game wasnt easy enough. (!) maybe you just better watch where you walk!
but this would be too hard right?
in Final Fantasy XI the monsters followed you till the end of the zone, and the zones have been huge... and you talk about nerfing monsters for their crowd control skills? seriously.. Many Monster skills can "disturb" at some point.. DoT effects, paralyze or what so ever.. so its not just "heavy effect".. that disturbs.. and then we and up cutting all skills out that can get on your "nerves" at some point.
FFXIV ARR openworld mobs became already trash mobs more or less in comparison to 1.0. version.

Actually what he said was completely non-sensical. Heavy, as it stands, is pointless. I can go into a high level part of a zone, leave my character there, go out to eat at a fancy restaurant and be back before the mobs take me anywhere near 50% (slight exaggeration, but you know what I mean.). For many people, heavy status removal is not because they're afraid they'll die because it's dangerous, it's because it's pointless because it's NOT dangerous.
As for a suggestion I believe might be accepted by both sides, make whether you get heavy based on your ilvl. There's no reason a level 42 mob should get heavy on my i110.
Reduce heavy to 25% instead of 50% and make it dismount you on hit. Bam, done.

video games are bad
Actually there is a reason. Your character is only level 50. Your gear makes you the equivalent of a level 110 character . But besides that his cast only has a chance to land on you , Dm rolls the 20d and mob Has a 1 in 20 chance it lands vs a lvl 50 character regardless of gear level. How man mobs do you run through that cast on you and they miss? . Add to that you can go go attack any S rank hunt mob alone and they will swat you down like a bug..but guess what ? You are still free to tryand the mobs don't know the differance of a lvl 50 character in all crap gear that would die in sylph land with a bunch of mobs agro on them with heavy verses your geared out toon. The thing about your fancy gear is it does let you shrug it off like it's just an annoyance. the same as it lets you speed run dungeons that a group in craps gear would get wreaked in.
The problem is that it's not accomplishing that point. Heavy doesn't make it harder to get away from the mobs, especially if you're mounted anyway. I've never stopped to fight a mob just because it cast Heavy on me. You still just run on past, it's simply that you run a lot slower as you go past (then continue to run slower long after the mob forgot about you entirely).
The limited range within which mobs will follow you makes Heavy worthless in a chase situation where the mob hopes to catch up to us. Its usefulness lies in the opposite direction, when a ranged fighter wants to prevent his opponent from approaching into melee range. Neither escaping while chased nor approaching into melee range can be avoided, but either can be delayed a little bit. The thing is that there's no point in simply delaying the former, whereas delaying the later can be quite useful.
So the mobs that are using Heavy are using it badly. That's why it fails to make them any more dangerous and just makes them annoying instead.
If SE wants those mobs to have something that will concern players passing by them, it should be a ranged attack that does some real damage. Or perhaps a skill that knocks us off our mount, as that would be far more likely to result in actually fighting them than a slow effect does.

That's exactly right. If the world had some teeth, that would be one thing. Right now, it only serves as an irritant.
I'm surprised SE hasn't made hardly any open-world changes.
Would've liked to have seen some packs of elite mobs move in to certain areas or set up new camps or something.
A lot of the Beast Tribes used preexisting mobs spare a few added FATEs here or there.
FATEs aren't the same as implementing deadlier portions of the overworld.
Mobs with farmable drops for crafting & the like even.
Or that need to be cleared to reach harder fishing locations or gathering nodes.
Or that're in the way to a rare-spawning elite Boss FATE.
Or that're in the way of harder Map Spawn Locations.
